Overview

This role is responsible for the analytical foundation behind pricing decisions across the enterprise. It owns competitive price intelligence, recurring pricing analytics, and the analysis and recommendations that support price architecture, promotional strategy, and markdown decisions.

Reporting into the Pricing organization, the Senior Analyst partners with Merchants, Merchandise Finance, and Marketing to develop and defend price point recommendations, evaluate promotional effectiveness, and shape markdown strategy. The role also sets analytical and control standards for pricing and provides technical guidance to less experienced analysts.

This is a senior individual contributor position for an analytical professional who can move from data to recommendations independently, present a clear point of view to senior stakeholders, and build deep expertise in retail pricing.

Responsibilities

Pricing Analytics

  • Own competitive price intelligence, including the competitive pricing data set and methodology; translate competitive position into actionable pricing recommendations for assigned categories
  • Lead price point analysis, including analysis and recommendations behind price architecture changes (margin impact, elasticity read, price gap position, and historical performance at comparable price points)
  • Evaluate promotional effectiveness by measuring incrementality and margin impact of promotional events; recommend which offers to repeat, reshape, or retire
  • Own markdown analytics by modeling markdown depth and timing scenarios; monitor sell-through and margin recovery on clearance and aged inventory and recommend corrective action
  • Build and maintain pricing models and scenario tools to quantify P&L impact of pricing decisions before they are made

Reporting & Data Management

  • Own the pricing reporting suite: design, own, and continuously improve pricing dashboards and performance reporting with consistent definitions and reliable data lineage
  • Own pricing data integrity by establishing and enforcing standards that keep pricing data complete, accurate, and consistently defined across reporting and systems
  • Drive automation to automate recurring analysis, reduce manual effort, and move toward self-service reporting
  • Lead complex ad hoc analysis by scoping, structuring, and delivering ambiguous, high-stakes analysis requested by Merchants, Finance, and executive leadership, with clear recommendations

Governance & Execution

  • Govern price change execution by ensuring the accuracy and control of price change files; validate correct reflection across systems and channels and resolve exceptions at root cause
  • Maintain auditable pricing governance documentation, including records of pricing decisions, approvals, and change history
  • Serve as the pricing analytics point of contact for Merchants, Merchandise Finance, and Marketing; represent pricing in cross-functional planning forums
  • Guide junior analysts by setting methodology and QA standards for pricing analytics and reviewing work for accuracy and rigor

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Economics, Analytics, Mathematics, or a related field
  • 4–7 years of analytical experience with demonstrated depth in retail pricing, merchandising, planning, or finance
  • Advanced Excel skills, including scenario modeling, large dataset handling, and building tools other people rely on
  • Proficiency in SQL, including independently sourcing, joining, and validating data across systems
  • Strong command of retail margin mechanics and the levers that drive gross margin performance
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including presenting recommendations to senior leadership
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently in ambiguous situations and mentor less experienced analysts

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proficiency in Power BI, Tableau, or comparable visualization tools, including dashboard design
  • Furniture, home, or big-ticket retail experience
  • Experience with pricing, promotion, or markdown optimization tools
  • Exposure to elasticity modeling
