Overview
A professional services firm is seeking a State and Local Tax Senior Manager to address complex state and local income and franchise tax issues. This role involves research, collaboration with tax practice colleagues, and providing advisory services primarily focused on pass-through entities and merger and acquisition activities. The position also includes responsibilities in marketing, networking, and business development within the state and local tax area.
Responsibilities
- Provide detailed advice on complex pass-through entity state income and franchise tax planning matters
- Focus on state income and franchise tax advisory, especially related to pass-through entities and M&A activities
- Deliver timely, high-quality client service that meets or exceeds expectations
- Perform or manage technical assignments including:
- Pass-through entity tax planning
- Merger and acquisition strategic planning
- Due diligence reviews
- State tax provision reviews
- State filing methodology reviews
- State modification research and guidance
- Apportionment reviews
- State income tax audits
- Nexus studies
- State tax planning
- Research and resolve complex state and local tax issues
- Prepare technical memoranda, matrices, and other client deliverables
- Draft internal and external state and local tax alerts
- Identify opportunities and market state and local tax services to clients and prospects
- Assist with new business development and extended service for existing clients
- Stay current on state tax practices and changes in tax law
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
- CPA, JD, and/or LLM required
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting
- Minimum of 7 years of recent experience in public accounting or a corporate tax department
- Significant experience with pass-through/flow-through entities
- Significant experience with merger and acquisition planning at the state income tax level
- Excellent communication and writing skills
- Strong tax research skills
- Strong project management skills
