Overview

This role supports an organization expanding into multiple new markets at the same time. Key capital-allocation decisions—covering new product lines, marketing channels, and headcount—require strong financial analysis and planning.

The Strategic Finance Manager will build the analysis and operating framework that those decisions rely on. This position reports to the VP of Finance and partners closely with the CFO and the founders, as well as functional leaders across the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Own the driver-based operating model for the base business and expand it as new insurance products and business lines launch.
  • Run the annual budget and long-range planning process end to end, including cadence, assumptions, stakeholder inputs, and the consolidated plan for executive approval.
  • Lead monthly and quarterly forecasting, including variance analysis: after Accounting closes the books, explain drivers of movement versus plan and prior period, why changes occurred, and implications for the forecast.
  • Write and deliver an executive narrative that translates financial results into clear business insights for the CFO, founders, board, and investors.
  • Lead monthly business reviews with functional leaders and turn financial results into business decisions.
  • Evaluate, recommend, and support implementation of a planning system to support the team’s forecasting and planning needs.
  • Build financial cases for new opportunities, including:
    • Financial modeling for new product/vertical/channel/partnership opportunities (market sizing, economics, and capital commitment and return profile).
    • Post-launch read-backs comparing actual economics to the original underwriting; monitor product and channel economics such as CAC and payback, policy retention and lifetime value, and contribution margin.
  • Support corporate development activities as needed (capital markets and investor workstreams), including diligence, modeling, and transaction analysis.
  • Help frame build/buy/partner decisions by refining frameworks used to compare options and returns.
  • Underwrite vendor spend by building business cases before commitments, supporting negotiation on terms, and giving budget owners visibility to manage their own numbers.

Requirements

  • 4+ years of relevant experience, ideally including:
    • 2+ years at a reputable investment bank, corporate development group, or private equity firm, and
    • 2+ years in strategic finance or FP&A at a high-growth company.
  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, economics, or a similarly quantitative field.
  • Strong financial modeling skills, including:
    • driver-based operating models
    • three-statement mechanics
    • scenario and sensitivity analysis
    • working command of accounting concepts and GAAP
  • Experience with unit economics in a consumer or marketplace business, including CAC, LTV, payback, cohort retention, and contribution margin.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate complex analysis into clear narratives for executive or investor audiences.
  • Startup or high-growth experience strongly preferred, including building financial processes from scratch.
  • Hands-on fluency with AI tools for analysis, research, and workflow automation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Insurance, insurtech, fintech, or marketplace experience
  • CFA certification
  • Vendor negotiation or procurement exposure
  • Finance tech stack experience (NetSuite, Ramp, planning tools)
