Overview
This role involves joining a seasonal tax preparation team to prepare individual or fiduciary tax returns (Form 1040 and/or 1041, including related schedules) in a fully paperless, remote environment. It is suited for candidates with foundational tax knowledge seeking to deepen their experience in a fast-paced, quality-focused setting. The position is non-client-facing and emphasizes accuracy, consistency, and efficiency.
Responsibilities
- Prepare individual income tax returns (Form 1040 and/or 1041) accurately and efficiently in a high-volume environment
- Process client financial data using tax preparation software
- Apply firm policies, tax regulations, and standardized procedures to ensure high-quality returns
- Maintain strict confidentiality of client information according to firm standards
- Collaborate within a centralized, fully remote team while managing individual productivity goals
- Demonstrate continuous learning and adaptability throughout the tax season
- Identify missing, inconsistent, or incomplete information and document questions internally as needed
- Maintain organized electronic files and documentation
- Meet productivity, accuracy, and turnaround expectations during peak filing periods
Requirements
- Prior participation in a previous seasonal tax preparation program with the organization
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred
- Ability to obtain an IRS-issued Preparer Tax Identification Number (PTIN) before the start date
- Availability to work a minimum of 30 hours per week, Monday through Friday, between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM local time; schedule must cover at least 4 days per week with a minimum of 4 consecutive hours per day
- Commitment to work from early February through early April 2027
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow structured processes
- Solid reading comprehension and ability to interpret tax documentation
- Critical thinking skills
- Basic understanding of tax and accounting terminology
Compensation & Benefits
- Pay rate range: $18.00 to $41.00 per hour
- Actual compensation depends on factors including skills, prior experience, qualifications, degrees, professional certifications, work arrangements, and geographic location
