Accountant (m/f/d), Germany focus - Remote (Europe)

Overview

This fully remote role supports day-to-day accounting for the organization’s German operations. The position is open to candidates located in Europe and reports to the Director of Finance / Head of Finance.

Responsibilities

• Support month-end and year-end close for German entities, including journal entries and accounting analysis
• Prepare balance sheet reconciliations and support their review
• Follow up with vendors on missing invoices and prepare cost accruals for P&L review
• Process payments and bank transfers, ensuring required approvals are in place
• Reconcile intercompany transactions
• Prepare German VAT filings, including Umsatzsteuervoranmeldung and Zusammenfassende Meldung
• Support payroll tax filings (Lohnsteuer-Anmeldung) together with the payroll provider and tax advisor
• Support annual financial statements under HGB, statutory audits, and tax filings
• Help ensure key controls and procedures are followed
• Clean up out-of-date or disorganized processes/ledgers and implement proper structures where needed
• Prepare financial KPIs and reporting for the finance team, ensuring accuracy
• Support monthly variance analysis of actuals against budget and forecast
• Work closely with the finance team on daily operations, reporting, and special projects

Requirements

• At least 3 years of accounting experience, including hands-on experience with German accounting (HGB) and German tax requirements
• Experience in the software / SaaS industry
• Solid understanding of accrual accounting
• Proficiency in MS Office, especially Excel
• Detail-oriented, diligent, and reliable with a strong focus on accuracy
• Comfortable working independently in a remote setup, taking ownership and acting on initiative
• Team-oriented communication and proactive collaboration, including remotely
• Ability to learn new systems quickly
• Fluent German and English (written and spoken)
• Based in Europe and authorized to work in your country of residence
• Being located in or near Berlin is a plus

Preferred Qualifications

• Professional qualification in accounting or bookkeeping
• Multi-currency or multi-entity experience
• NetSuite experience
