Overview

This position involves accounting work focused on governmental and public accounting. The role requires strong technical skills, including managing complex reconciliations, preparing and reviewing journal entries, and conducting detailed financial analysis. Success in this position includes working independently with minimal supervision while identifying, analyzing, and resolving financial issues.

Responsibilities

  • Perform and review complex account reconciliations, ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting standards.
  • Prepare and review journal entries, maintaining accuracy and timeliness.
  • Conduct financial analyses to identify variances, trends, and potential issues, and provide actionable recommendations.
  • Independently identify, analyze, and resolve accounting discrepancies or irregularities with minimal guidance.
  • Assist with the preparation of financial reports, ensuring compliance with governmental accounting standards (e.g., GASB).
  • Support internal and external audits by preparing schedules, reconciling accounts, and addressing auditor inquiries.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
  • 8+ years of relevant accounting experience.
  • Demonstrated expertise in complex reconciliations, journal entries, and financial analysis.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in governmental accounting is highly desired.
  • Experience in public accounting roles is highly desired.

Skills & Technical Qualifications

  • Advanced knowledge of governmental accounting standards (e.g., GASB).
  • Experience in accounting for grants, fixed assets, cash management, revenue recognition, accounts payable, payroll, or other relevant areas.
  • Direct experience working in a large ERP environment and accounting systems; Oracle experience is highly desired.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel, including extensive use of Pivot Tables, formulas, data collection, and management.
  • Exceptional analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong attention to detail to ensure accuracy and completeness in all financial processes and reporting.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines.

Working Conditions
