Overview
The organization is seeking a highly skilled, hands-on Accounting Manager to lead the accounting function supporting rapid growth. This role establishes scalable processes, ensures the accuracy and integrity of financial data, and helps enable operational excellence as the finance function matures.
The Accounting Manager will serve as the senior accounting lead, partnering closely with the Head of Finance. Responsibilities include owning the full accounting cycle, driving end-to-end month-end close, and ensuring clean, accurate, and defensible books.
Responsibilities
Month-end close and general ledger
- Own the close calendar end to end, including task assignment, deadlines, review, and the close results package delivered to the Head of Finance.
- Review and post journal entries prepared by the team; prepare entries that require judgment (commission and bonus accruals, payroll true-ups, and period-end reclasses).
- Perform detailed balance sheet reconciliations for cash, AR, deferred revenue, prepaids, and accruals.
- Run flux analysis (MoM, YoY) across the P&L and balance sheet and write variance commentary explaining movement.
- Maintain the chart of accounts and product master lists; keep reporting mappings current.
Revenue reporting and billing oversight
- Review and approve the monthly revenue close prepared by the billing analyst, including reconciliation of subscription and non-subscription revenue across Stripe, Salesforce, and QuickBooks Online, plus the resulting accounting entries.
- Own revenue recognition policy under ASC 606 and make judgment calls for usage overages, multi-element contracts, contract modifications, concessions, and early terminations.
- Own annual recurring revenue reporting (ARR and CARR): monthly build and roll-forward of new, expansion, contraction, and churn, and tie-out of the roll-forward back to booked revenue in the general ledger.
- Connect recurring revenue reporting to Salesforce pipeline and contract reporting; reconcile bookings, billings, and recognized revenue with the billing analyst.
- Oversee invoicing, collections, and the dunning cycle.
- Approve concessions, credit memos, and refunds.
- Review the deferred revenue schedule against the billing system.
Accounts payable, expenses, and payroll
- Oversee vendor bills, payment runs, and employee reimbursements in Ramp, in partnership with People Operations.
- Partner with People Operations on domestic and international payroll: review runs, journalize them, and reconcile the clearing and benefits-payable accounts.
- Review commission calculations and record corresponding accruals and true-ups.
Financial reporting and expense forecasting
- Update the monthly expense forecast using closed actuals, including run rate by department and GL account, vendor and contract commitments, headcount, and compensation roll-forward.
- Maintain amortization and accrual schedules that drive forward-looking operating expense; incorporate changes into the forecast as they are booked.
- Explain spend variance against budget at the account and department level; keep supporting detail current for leadership reporting.
Tax, compliance, and audit readiness
- Coordinate with external advisors on federal, state, and franchise tax filings.
- Own sales tax, 1099, and entity registration compliance.
- Run audit readiness and execution, including PBC lists, supporting schedules, and responding to auditor questions.
Team and process
- Manage and develop a small analyst team covering AP and expense operations, and billing and AR.
- Serve as backup across the team’s work; act as the Head of Finance’s delegate on accounting matters.
- Own the accounting SOP library, close checklist, and task repository; keep all three current.
- Identify manual or inefficient processes and eliminate them as the team targets an “autonomous close.” Close, billing, and reconciliation processes already run on a growing set of automations; this role is expected to extend them.
Requirements
Minimum qualifications
- 6+ years of progressive accounting experience, including ownership of a full close cycle and hands-on balance sheet reconciliation.
- Strong full general ledger background: ability to prepare and review entries across payroll, accruals, and revenue; defend a balance; and understand how accounting activity flows through the income statement, balance sheet, and cash flow statement.
- Revenue recognition experience under ASC 606 in a subscription business.
- Experience managing, reviewing, and developing other accountants.
Systems
- QuickBooks Online (required): daily hands-on experience with chart of accounts, journal entries, bank reconciliation, and reporting.
- Stripe (required): subscriptions, invoices, credit memos, disputes, payouts, and reconciling subscription billing activity into the general ledger.
- Advanced Google Sheets: pivots, lookups, nested logic, and data validation.
- Salesforce (significant plus).
AI fluency and automation (required)
- Demonstrated, current use of AI in accounting work; able to describe what was automated, what it replaced, and the time saved.
- Comfort writing prompts, iterating on outputs, and knowing when not to trust results; everything AI produces is reviewed before it touches the ledger.
- The finance function runs on a library of custom AI workflows built in-house; use them daily and be expected to build on them.
Preferred Qualifications
- CPA or active CPA candidate.
- SaaS or technology industry experience.
- Prior exposure to modern expense, HRIS, or close-management platforms.
