Overview
This role involves serving as Chief Financial Officer, owning the organization’s financial strategy end to end—from FP&A and fundraising through Board reporting—while staying hands-on enough to build and maintain the core financial models.
The CFO will guide finance through a period of scaling and increased complexity, partnering closely with executives and the Board, and using data and metrics to influence product and sales decisions.
Responsibilities
- Build and lead finance/accounting: Establish and run the finance and accounting function, owning the organization’s financial operating system end to end.
- Financial strategy & planning: Set and execute financial strategy supporting sustainable, capital-efficient growth.
- Hands-on FP&A & modeling: Own FP&A directly, including forecasting, financial models, and the planning process; ensure clear success criteria and defensible numbers.
- Accounting, reporting, and compliance: Oversee accuracy of financial reporting, including audits, tax compliance, and month-end close. You may bring on one additional hire to support accounting, while retaining ownership of the financial narrative and controls.
- Fundraising & investor relations: Partner with the CEO during fundraising; lead diligence preparation and own the financial narrative used to close deals.
- Executive and Board partnership: Serve as the primary financial escalation point for the executive team and engage directly with the Board of Directors; translate financial constraints into executable plans.
- Cross-functional influence: Provide financial input to Product and Sales discussions using unit economics and efficiency metrics to inform roadmap and go-to-market decisions.
- Data analysis support: Write SQL queries against the data warehouse when answers are needed quickly.
Requirements
- Deep financial expertise: Strong technical background in corporate finance and accounting (GAAP), with fluency in SaaS metrics including ARR, NRR, and CAC.
- Executive-level leadership: Experience operating at the CFO or VP Finance level in a high-growth startup or SaaS environment, including building a finance function with transparency and fiscal responsibility.
- Fundraising track record: Led fundraising efforts or was deeply embedded in fundraising rounds, managing diligence and investor relationships under pressure.
- Operator mindset: Senior enough to set strategy while personally owning FP&A and key modeling work, without delegating FP&A ownership as the team grows.
- Communication skills: Ability to explain complex financial concepts clearly to engineers, investors (VCs), and senior leadership, tailoring the level of detail to the audience.
