Overview
This role leads accounting end to end, with ownership extending beyond managing the monthly close. The organization is seeking an accounting leader who can apply independent, CPA-level judgment, strengthen core processes, and guide how the function evolves into a sharper, more modern operating model over time.
Responsibilities
- Own the accounting function end to end, including close, audit readiness, technical accounting, GAAP compliance, and core reporting operations.
- Lead and develop the accounting team, including day-one management responsibility for 2 direct reports and oversight across the broader team structure.
- Create a 12-month view of where accounting needs to go and translate it into a practical roadmap.
- Shorten close timelines, reduce manual work, and improve how accounting systems and processes operate across the function.
- Partner earlier with Product, Revenue, Customer Success, and Finance so accounting shapes decisions instead of responding late.
- Make technically grounded accounting decisions related to new products, pricing or packaging changes, contract structure, and other business changes.
- Assess team structure and priorities, then implement changes when a different operating model, sequencing, or resourcing approach will better support the business.
Requirements
- CPA required.
- 8+ years of progressive accounting experience, including meaningful time owning the controller seat or operating at a near-controller level.
- Strong command of technical accounting, GAAP, audit management, and accounting controls.
- Experience running an audit and close process with real ownership, not as one part within a heavily layered organization.
- Track record of improving accounting operations in a lean environment where judgment and execution both matter.
- Experience leading teams through process change, systems change, or organizational redesign.
- Ability to make recommendations and decisions independently, with clear reasoning.
- Strong cross-functional instincts, including experience inserting accounting early, influencing upstream decisions, and building credibility across the business.
- Experience in SaaS or other recurring-revenue environments is useful; experience in transaction-based or operationally messy models is even better.
- Hands-on experience with modern accounting tools is preferred. Experience with Rillet, Tabs, or similarly modern accounting systems will stand out.
AI Proficiency Requirements
AI proficiency is required for this role. Responsibilities include using AI to:
- Shorten close timelines
- Reduce manual review
- Improve decision-making
- Build repeatable workflows with appropriate checks
Candidates should be able to provide real examples of using AI in accounting operations, including what worked, what did not, and how outputs were validated before impacting the books.
