Overview

This entry-level Credit Analyst Trainee position is designed to develop expertise in credit analysis and financial assessment within a commercial banking environment. The role involves conducting detailed credit investigations, analyzing financial statements, and preparing comprehensive reports to support lending decisions. The trainee will work under the supervision of experienced professionals and contribute to the credit evaluation process, including reviewing loan requests, monitoring credit portfolios, and ensuring compliance with policies and regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Investigate all available sources of credit and financial information, including credit bureaus, reporting services, bank references, and internal data.
  • Spread and analyze financial statements using appropriate software tools to assess clients' financial health.
  • Assist in preparing summaries, presenting facts, and offering opinions regarding creditworthiness under supervision.
  • Summarize conclusions in loan presentations and review reports for management and loan committees.
  • Conduct market and industry analysis, including evaluation of competitors, suppliers, potential new entrants, and management teams.
  • Support special projects and reporting assignments within Credit Administration to improve processes and reporting accuracy.
  • Ensure compliance with bank and credit policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide computer support, including data entry and maintenance of loan analysis systems.
  • Stay informed about new and pending laws and regulations affecting credit practices and incorporate relevant changes into procedures.
  • Participate in the development and refinement of credit policies to safeguard the organization's interests.
  • Maintain accurate reporting on customer credit obligations and recommend risk grade adjustments as necessary.
  • Complete loan reviews as directed by senior analysts or credit managers, ensuring thorough evaluation of existing credit portfolios.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree preferred in business, finance, or a related field; candidates with an associate's degree plus post-high school training in accounting or finance will also be considered.
  • Prior experience in commercial credit or lending is advantageous but not required; training will be provided.
  • High level of trustworthiness, diplomacy, and tact due to the sensitive nature of credit information and extensive personal contact.
  • Knowledge of banking practices related to commercial banking, financial statement analysis, and familiarity with tax returns.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint) and financial statement spreading software.
  • Strong analytical ability, organizational skills, and attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
