Director - FP&A Private Equity

Overview

This role supports the organization’s rapidly growing Private Equity practice, serving as a trusted partner to clients. Responsibilities include client delivery, business development, leading teams, and developing junior team members, as well as contributing as a member of the leadership team.

In the competitive deal market, Private Equity funds increasingly use operational enhancements to create value across their portfolio companies. This position involves guiding CFOs as they build scalable accounting and finance functions that support the investment thesis.

Responsibilities

• Client Delivery
  • Lead the development and delivery of services.
  • Serve clients within the “Office of the CFO” at Private Equity portfolio companies by creating a diagnostic framework and improving the effectiveness of the finance function.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with portfolio company representatives and Private Equity sponsors; collaborate with team members to scope, clarify, and deliver high-quality client service.
• Business Development
  • Identify new growth and shared revenue opportunities.
  • Collaborate with leadership to expand FP&A capability offerings.
• Practice Leadership (FP&A)
  • Oversee end-to-end delivery of FP&A engagements, including scoping, staffing, client communication, and quality control.
  • Provide strategic thought leadership and engagement oversight across concurrent engagements, including:
    • Forecasting and budgeting redesign
    • Cash flow and liquidity management
    • Performance reporting and KPI frameworks
    • Interim FP&A support roles
    • Finance function diagnostics
  • Develop and enhance repeatable delivery “playbooks,” templates, tools, and methodologies to scale the practice.
  • Identify key industry developments and trends and articulate potential impact to clients.
• AI-Enabled Solutions
  • Contribute to developing and implementing firm-approved, AI-enabled solutions for clients in accordance with company policies on data protection, intellectual property, and professional standards.
  • Stay informed about emerging AI tools and techniques and collaborate with firm leadership to identify compliant opportunities to enhance client solutions and internal processes.
• Team Leadership
  • Serve as a role model who coaches and mentors team members and liaises with the leadership team.

Requirements

• 10+ years of senior FP&A and/or consulting experience, with significant exposure to middle-market Private Equity-owned businesses.
• Experience working in a Private Equity consulting environment, including knowledge of the relationship between Private Equity sponsors and their portfolio companies.
• Experience building, mentoring, and setting standards for high-performing FP&A teams.
• Diverse industry experience, which may include manufacturing, SaaS, healthcare, and business services.
• Strong understanding of cash flow dynamics, debt structures & covenant reporting, value creation plans, and exit and diligence processes.
• Advanced financial modeling skills with judgment to keep models practical and decision-focused.
• Knowledge and proficiency in leading and implementing best practices to optimize finance functions.
• Knowledge of key technology solutions within the Office of the CFO, including leading ERP and EPM platforms.
• Experience with or significant exposure to data analytics tools such as: Tableau, PowerBI, Alteryx, Snowflake, SQL, Python, etc.
• Comfort with AI, including demonstrated ability to responsibly explore and adopt firm-approved AI tools to enhance productivity and innovation.
• Proven ability to generate leads from a network outside of existing client work.
• Experience mentoring and developing junior team members and helping project teams resolve multi-faceted issues.
