Overview

This role is a build-focused Director of Accounting position responsible for owning the organization’s accounting function. The work includes cleaning and structuring historical books migrated from QuickBooks and Sage into NetSuite, running a reliable monthly close across the parent company and acquired subsidiaries, and leading accounting integration for each acquisition.

This is a hands-on leadership role: you will perform key accounting work and lead an offshore accounting team to meet quality and close timelines.

Responsibilities

  • Own the month-end close across the parent company and subsidiaries, completing within 10 business days.
  • Reconcile and clean up historical balances, bringing legacy QuickBooks and Sage data into a consistent structure in NetSuite.
  • Redesign and own the chart of accounts and segment structure across business units and revenue centers.
  • Fix deferred revenue and determine whether NetSuite Advanced Revenue Management is the appropriate long-term tool.
  • Lead accounting integration of acquired subsidiaries into NetSuite OneWorld, including intercompany and consolidation.
  • Lead the offshore accounting team day to day: assign work, review deliverables, and maintain the quality bar.
  • Own accounting policies and controls to keep the books audit ready, including ownership of the external auditor relationship.
  • Own accuracy of inventory, WIP, COGS, and project costing.
  • Partner with the Finance Operations Manager on AP, AR, billing, and project costing.
  • Partner with the NetSuite owner on configuration and ensure NetSuite remains the system of record rather than spreadsheets.

Qualifications (Must Haves)

  • 6 to 10 years of accounting experience, including owning a month-end close end to end.
  • Experience personally cleaning up or rebuilding messy books, ideally including a QuickBooks or Sage migration into NetSuite.
  • Experience managing accountants, including outsourced or offshore teams in other time zones.
  • Multi-entity accounting experience, including intercompany, consolidation, and integrating acquired companies into an existing chart of accounts.
  • Inventory and COGS accounting experience in a company that moves physical product.
  • Deferred revenue and revenue recognition experience for product or project businesses.
  • Hands-on NetSuite experience across parent and subsidiaries.

Preferred Qualifications

  • CPA, active or previously held.
  • Experience leading or participating in a financial audit.
  • Experience integrating acquired companies into an existing accounting system.
  • Experience with NetSuite OneWorld or Advanced Revenue Management.
  • Experience with Sage or Great Plains.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary range: $140K to $195K
  • Equity options package
  • Unlimited PTO and a flexible schedule
  • 401k matching
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • Volunteer tree planting days

Location

  • Remote within the US
  • Periodic travel to San Francisco (roughly monthly at first)
  • SF Bay Area, Duluth MN, Baltimore MD, or New London CT a plus
