Overview

This role is part of a global financial platform focused on supporting small businesses. As the organization expands across multiple markets, strong financial risk management is essential to scale safely, responsibly, and sustainably.

As the Director of Financial Risk, you will lead the global 2LOD Financial Risk team and shape how the business identifies, assesses, and oversees financial risks. You will own the financial risk framework and provide independent oversight, challenge, and trusted advice to 1LOD teams across:

  • Financial Reporting & Control (statutory & regulatory accounting)
  • FP&A (management accounting & commercial finance)
  • Finance Operations (account operations, reconciliations, AP & AR, payroll)
  • Treasury
  • Finance Product (systems support for Finance)
  • Corporate Development (CorDev work impacting Financial Risk)

You will also work closely with the Regional Heads/Directors of Finance coordinating these functions for their region (UK, EU, India). This is a highly visible leadership role supporting scaling in new markets, licences, and products.

Responsibilities

  • Own and evolve the Financial Risk Management Framework to grow with the business as it expands into new markets, launches new products, and operates under new licences.

  • Ensure alignment of financial risk governance across all regulated entities and jurisdictions.
  • Maintain and enhance financial risk appetite metrics, limits, triggers, and escalation protocols.
  • Provide clear, independent reporting to Group and entity-level Risk & Compliance Committees and Boards.
  • Monitor capital adequacy, liquidity, concentration risks, and overall financial resilience.
  • Support regulatory engagements, audits, thematic reviews, and licence applications.
  • Independently oversee treasury and liquidity management activities.

  • Lead financial risk assessments for new products, partnerships, and market launches.
  • Partner with other Risk & Compliance teams, Finance, Legal, and Internal Audit to ensure integrated risk management.
  • Present concise, insightful risk reporting to Risk & Compliance Committees and lead on Financial Risk Working Groups.
  • Lead a high-performing, experienced global financial risk team.

Requirements

  • Significant experience leading Financial Risk within fintech, payments, e-money, banking, or another regulated financial services environment.
  • Experience operating in a 2LOD leadership role.
  • Strong knowledge of financial risk frameworks within payment institutions, e-money institutions, or digital banking.
  • Deep expertise across treasury, liquidity, solvability, capital, solvency, statutory reporting, and tax risk.
  • Accounting expertise; ideally with an accounting qualification.
  • Experience working across multiple regulatory jurisdictions, including direct engagement with regulators and auditors.
  • Ability to balance strong risk management with commercial ambition in a fast-moving business.
  • Excellent communication skills, with confidence to influence senior stakeholders and deliver independent challenge.
