Overview
This role is a Financial Analyst position supporting an Independent Evaluation Department of Norwegian Development Cooperation.
- Location: Remote - United States
- Job Type: Full Time
- Salary: $69,000-$77,000 per year
The work focuses on organizing financial information into useful views of actual performance, expected results, and the factors driving differences between plans and outcomes. Accuracy and clear communication are essential.
Responsibilities
- Perform trend, sensitivity, and scenario analysis to show how changing assumptions may affect expected results.
- Analyze revenue, expenses, margins, and other financial or operating measures to identify performance drivers.
- Compare actual financial results with budgets, forecasts, and prior periods, and explain meaningful variances.
- Prepare recurring financial reports, management summaries, and ad hoc analyses for stakeholder review.
- Reconcile information across schedules or reports and investigate material inconsistencies.
- Build and maintain spreadsheet-based financial models for planning, comparison, and scenario analysis.
Variance analysis should go beyond stating whether a number is higher or lower. Where information allows, help identify operational or financial drivers and explain whether differences appear temporary, recurring, assumption-driven, or in need of further review.
Requirements
- Interest in financial modeling, scenario analysis, and forward-looking business planning.
- Clear written communication and ability to summarize financial information for non-specialist stakeholders.
- Willingness to question inconsistent inputs and resolve or escalate discrepancies before completing an analysis.
- Comfort using Microsoft Excel or comparable spreadsheet software for calculations and organized financial schedules.
- Strong numerical reasoning, attention to detail, and a disciplined approach to checking financial information.
- Comfort working with uncertainty: when financial information is incomplete or inconsistent, investigate the source, document limitations, and avoid presenting uncertain results as more precise than they are.
