Overview
This role is for a Financial Analyst to support stakeholders with spreadsheet-based financial analysis, including careful review of assumptions, variances, and financial trends. You will help explain not only what changed, but also why it may matter.
Typical analysis often begins by comparing plan versus actual performance. You will determine which accounts or operating factors contributed to the movement, verify underlying information, and communicate results with appropriate context.
Responsibilities
- Compare actual financial results with budgets, forecasts, and prior periods, explaining meaningful variances.
- Reconcile information across schedules or reports and investigate material inconsistencies.
- Build and maintain spreadsheet-based financial models for planning, comparison, and scenario analysis.
- Review source information and validate calculations before analysis is distributed or relied upon.
- Assist with budgeting and forecasting by organizing assumptions, updating schedules, and checking calculations.
- Analyze revenue, expenses, margins, and other financial or operating measures to identify performance drivers.
In variance analysis, go beyond stating whether a number is higher or lower. Where information allows, identify operational or financial drivers behind the movement and explain whether the difference appears temporary, recurring, assumption-driven, or in need of further review.
Requirements
- Foundational understanding of financial statements, budgeting, forecasting, and basic accounting principles.
- Willingness to question inconsistent inputs and resolve or escalate discrepancies before completing an analysis.
- Ability to manage assigned priorities independently while collaborating through digital tools in a remote environment.
- Clear written communication and ability to summarize financial information for non-specialist stakeholders.
- Comfort using Microsoft Excel or comparable spreadsheet software for calculations and organized financial schedules.
- Good judgment when financial information is incomplete or inconsistent, including readiness to investigate the source, document limitations, and avoid presenting uncertain results as more precise than they are.
- Dependable communication and self-management in a remote setting, including organizing work, responding to reasonable update requests, and using shared digital tools to keep responsibilities visible and handoffs clear.
