Overview
This entry-level Financial Analyst role provides meaningful analytical responsibility and supports recurring financial reporting. You will help answer questions about revenue, expenses, budgets, forecasts, and operating performance.
The work involves moving between financial statements, spreadsheet schedules, operating metrics, and forecast assumptions—often within the same week. Emphasis is placed on checked calculations, transparent assumptions, and conclusions presented to support decision-making.
Forecasting requires handling uncertainty. You should be comfortable presenting alternative scenarios when a single estimate could create a false sense of precision, particularly when results depend on variables that may change.
Responsibilities
- Compare actual financial results with budgets, forecasts, and prior periods, and explain meaningful variances.
- Reconcile information across schedules or reports and investigate material inconsistencies.
- Review source information and validate calculations before financial analysis is distributed or relied upon.
- Perform trend, sensitivity, and scenario analysis to show how changing assumptions may affect expected results.
- Build and maintain spreadsheet-based financial models for planning, comparison, and scenario analysis.
- Assist with budgeting and forecasting by organizing assumptions, updating schedules, and checking calculations.
Financial models and schedules should remain understandable after immediate tasks are complete, using clear labels, documented assumptions, reasonable checks, and organized formulas to make review easier and reduce the risk of unnoticed errors during future updates.
Requirements
- Strong numerical reasoning, attention to detail, and a disciplined approach to checking financial information.
- Ability to compare results, identify material variances, and explain the drivers behind financial changes.
- Interest in financial modeling, scenario analysis, and forward-looking business planning.
- Comfort using Microsoft Excel or comparable spreadsheet software for calculations and organized financial schedules.
- Comfort learning company-specific reporting definitions, schedules, and planning processes.
