Overview
This role involves a Financial Analyst position focused on spreadsheet work, careful review of assumptions, variance analysis, and financial trend analysis. The goal is to help stakeholders understand what changed, why it changed, and how it may matter for decision-making.
Financial models and schedules should remain understandable after the immediate task is complete through clear labels, documented assumptions, reasonable checks, and organized formulas.
The work may involve moving between financial statements, spreadsheet schedules, operating metrics, and forecast assumptions within the same week. Across all tasks, calculations must be checked, assumptions must be clear, and conclusions must be presented in a decision-supporting way.
Primary Responsibilities
- Compare actual financial results with budgets, forecasts, and prior periods and explain meaningful variances.
- Help improve recurring financial reporting processes while maintaining appropriate review controls.
- Analyze revenue, expenses, margins, and other financial or operating measures to identify performance drivers.
- Assist with budgeting and forecasting by organizing assumptions, updating schedules, and checking calculations.
- Perform trend, sensitivity, and scenario analysis to show how changing assumptions may affect expected results.
- Support KPI reporting by connecting financial measures with relevant operational context.
Variance analysis should go beyond stating that a number is higher or lower; where information allows, identify operational or financial drivers behind the movement and explain whether the difference appears temporary, recurring, assumption-driven, or in need of further review.
As recurring reports and planning cycles become familiar, opportunities may include improving efficiency, strengthening documentation, and making financial information easier for colleagues to review and use.
Skills and Qualifications
- Clear written communication and the ability to summarize financial information for non-specialist stakeholders.
- Organized documentation habits and an appreciation for traceable financial analysis.
- Ability to manage assigned priorities independently while collaborating through digital tools in a remote environment.
- Ability to compare results, identify material variances, and explain the drivers behind a financial change.
- Interest in financial modeling, scenario analysis, and forward-looking business planning.
