FM CHEMISTRY: CONTROLLER

Overview

This role is based in Rotterdam and supports an international group operating across different tax and accounting jurisdictions, with teams and bookkeepers working remotely across various countries in Eurasia and Africa.

The organization is consolidating after a strong growth phase and is overhauling its financial accounting, business control, and compliance systems. The controller will help develop and implement the right systems, guide internal bookkeepers, and monitor quality and controls.

Responsibilities

• Work with internal bookkeepers and external accountants to ensure accurate and timely reporting for local authorities, banks, credit departments, and management
• Take primary responsibility for the full set of accounts across all entities, including HK and international
• Guide and monitor quality/control standards for bookkeeping activities, supported by 1 FTE bookkeepers (split between junior and senior; not based in HK)
• Ensure smooth operations by overseeing payables and receivables and their proper timing before and after cash flows
• Support improvements to information flow between departments

Accounting and Financial Control (35%)

• Own accounting and financial control activities across the full set of accounts

Design and Implementation of Accounting and Compliance Systems (25%)

• Develop and implement accounting and compliance systems and related protocols

Business Control and Optimization (20%)

• Perform cost analysis
• Track customer/product profitability
• Optimize cash flow
• Drive cost reduction initiatives
• Provide timely management reporting to support decision-making
• Occasionally assist with tender bid or equipment investment calculations

Regulatory, Tax, Trade and Bank Compliance (20%)

• Ensure regulatory, tax, trade, and bank compliance across applicable jurisdictions

Requirements

• Finance and Accounting degree
• 5 years of experience as an accountant or controller
• Experience in structured and systematic design and implementation
• Fluent in English (all work will be only in English)
• Self-starter and independent worker
• Assertive communication style; able to speak your mind
• Capable of giving and receiving direct feedback
• Prepared to work with highly diverse, cross-cultural teams in different time zones
