Overview
The organization is seeking a customer-embedded tax professional to help deploy AI-powered tax workflows inside accounting firms. This role is focused on applying tax and accounting judgment, redesigning firm workflows with AI in the loop, and feeding real-world findings back into product.
Responsibilities
- Embed with accounting and tax customers to map tax and accounting workflows, identify constraints (process, systems, seasonality, risk), and define clear success metrics for each deployment.
- Design, pilot, and operationalize AI-powered tax workflows, including configuration and hardening across research, document analysis, prep support, review, memos, planning, and client work—so workflows remain reliable during busy season.
- Lead implementation and change management by running kickoffs, building rollout plans, training partners, managers, preparers, and operations staff, and handing off durable playbooks and champions.
- Partner with customers and work directly inside product to diagnose workflow failures, identify practical workarounds, and drive solutions until the firm can run the process confidently day to day.
- Support high-value accounts in collaboration with sales, success, and product by enabling complex activations and demonstrating ROI (time saved, quality improvements, capacity unlocked).
- Surface field patterns—recurring prompts, failure modes, edge cases, training gaps, and missing capabilities—and translate them into concrete, reproducible inputs for product and engineering roadmap decisions.
- Build and refine the forward-deployed implementation playbook, including templates, evaluations of real tax tasks, onboarding kits, and implementation patterns.
Requirements
- 3+ years of experience in public accounting, tax (preparation, review, planning, consulting, or compliance), firm operations, client accounting services, or a closely related role—ideally within a CPA firm or tax practice.
- Deep familiarity with how accounting firms operate, with the ability to communicate credibly with stakeholders across roles (e.g., managing partners, tax managers, preparers, and operations leads).
- Proven ability to teach and drive change, including explaining new workflows clearly, recognizing when someone is stuck, and adjusting approach without undermining confidence.
- Comfort working in the details of returns, research memos, document packages, review notes, and busy-season bottlenecks, and using professional judgment to redesign workflows with AI support.
- Strong bias for action in ambiguous environments: scope open-ended problems, ship workable processes quickly, measure what matters, and iterate based on feedback.
- Technical fluency with modern AI tools and tax/accounting software, with the ability to configure products, learn systems quickly, and collaborate with product and engineering (not as a software engineer).
- Clear, concise communication and low-ego collaboration; willingness to pair with customers and teammates as needed.
- Willingness to travel as customer work requires (typically periodic onsite visits and industry events).
Preferred Qualifications
- Active CPA, EA, or progress toward one; MST or strong tax specialization is a plus.
- Experience implementing tax or accounting software (examples mentioned: CCH Axcess, Thomson Reuters, Lacerte, UltraTax, Drake, practice-management or document systems).
- Experience in tax technology, firm transformation, AI enablement, professional-services implementation, or solutions consulting.
- Early-stage startup experience, or a record of building and standardizing playbooks while doing the work.
- Familiarity with how AI copilots, retrieval workflows, and prompt/eval loops show up in professional services (ability to make them useful in tax work).
- Experience leading training programs, change management, or process improvement inside a firm.
