Overview
This role involves supporting the financial planning and analysis (FP&A) functions for a fast-growing technology company specializing in a high-performance PostgreSQL platform. The FP&A Analyst will be responsible for managing financial rhythms including headcount planning, cost of goods sold (COGS) forecasting, marketing spend analysis, and recurring forecast updates. The position requires turning complex financial and operational data into clear, executive-ready materials for leadership and the Board.
This is a remote position based in the United States, with a preference for candidates located on or able to work substantial hours overlapping the East Coast time zone.
Responsibilities
- Own headcount planning, forecasting, and budget tracking, including approved roles, hiring timing, and compensation assumptions.
- Maintain visibility into cost of goods sold, support recurring COGS forecasting, variance analysis, and performance reporting.
- Partner with Marketing to monitor spend, analyze budget variances, and evaluate financial impacts of programs and partnerships.
- Support weekly Annual Recurring Revenue (ARR) forecasts by gathering inputs, validating assumptions, and maintaining forecasting cadence.
- Prepare recurring financial presentations, executive materials, and written performance updates explaining changes and areas requiring attention.
- Conduct budget-versus-actual analysis and follow up with department leaders on spending changes, risks, and forecast updates.
- Support monthly and quarterly planning discussions with clear financial analysis and well-organized materials.
- Collaborate with Accounting during month-end close to improve accuracy and timeliness of accruals, expense reporting, and variance explanations.
- Improve recurring FP&A processes, templates, and reporting workflows to enhance speed and consistency.
- Work directly with financial and operational data, validate inputs, identify inconsistencies, and escalate issues affecting business decisions.
- Utilize AI tools to accelerate analysis, draft initial performance narratives, identify trends, and improve workflows while maintaining judgment, confidentiality, and accuracy.
- Own creation of detailed Board and executive materials, ensuring accuracy, clarity, and decision-usefulness.
Requirements
- Strong FP&A experience including forecasting, headcount planning, budget management, and variance analysis.
- Ability to independently manage recurring financial processes and produce accurate work with limited supervision.
- Comfortable partnering directly with department leaders and challenging assumptions when necessary.
- Skilled at translating financial data into clear written explanations of business performance.
- Intellectual curiosity with a habit of asking "why" beyond reporting numbers.
- Proficient in spreadsheet and financial modeling, comfortable working with large or imperfect datasets.
- Commitment to data integrity and proactive investigation of anomalies.
- Interest and demonstrated sound judgment in applying AI tools to finance workflows.

Compensation & Benefits
- Salary range: $110,000 – $135,000 USD annually.
