Overview

This role is for a hands-on Fractional CFO to take ownership of end-to-end finance operations. The engagement is fully remote and typically about 1–2 days a week (as needed). The role includes running cash flow, managing the monthly close, overseeing payments, tax, budgeting, and ensuring credit lines are in place to fund growth.

The organization generates $50M+ in annual revenue and is scaling toward $100M+, including expansion through a second brand.

Responsibilities

  • Own and maintain the 13-week cash flow forecast on a weekly basis (including identifying the cash “trough”).
  • Run the monthly close with the outside bookkeeper and ensure the books are closed on time every month.
  • Manage payments end to end, including:
    • Contractor pay (twice a month)
    • Supplier and freight invoices
    • Software and card expenses
    • Affiliate and creator payouts
  • Ensure sales tax and corporate tax filings are correct and submitted on time with support from the CPA.
  • Build and track budgeting and fixed cost control (monthly fixed costs vs budget).
  • Forecast subscriptions, subscription cohorts, and the cash conversion cycle, and flag deviations from plan the week they appear.
  • Own credit and capital strategy, including:
    • Growing credit lines
    • Managing lender relationships
    • Setting up and operating an asset-based lending facility so the next two quarters of purchase orders are funded
  • Maintain finance controls and reporting quality, including:
    • Two-person approvals on every payment
    • Monthly reconciliations for all accounts
    • Keeping the books audit-ready
  • Provide decision-ready reporting to leadership, including:
    • Bringing the cash picture to weekly leadership meetings
    • Delivering a monthly finance report to the CEO
  • Support finance automation/operations, including managing the AI finance stack and related automations.

Outcomes (Success Metrics)

  • Cash flow, subscriptions, and the cash conversion cycle are projected clearly with no surprises (projections vs actuals; cash never below the minimum balance).
  • Books are accurate and closed on time each month; no corrections needed after the P&L review with the CEO.
  • Everyone is paid correctly and on time (contractors, bills, and payouts).
  • Fixed costs stay within budget each month.
  • Credit and capital are available to fund growth (credit available vs cash needed for the next two quarters of purchase orders).
  • Money is controlled and books are audit-ready (second approval for every payment; all accounts reconciled monthly).

Requirements

  • Finance leadership experience: CFO or VP of Finance for at least one DTC ecommerce brand doing $30M+ a year (must).
  • Hands-on finance operations: experience personally running 13-week cash flows, monthly closes with an outside bookkeeper, and managing contractor and supplier payments.
  • Ecommerce finance experience: reconciliation of Shopify and Amazon payouts; understanding of nCPA, MER, LTV, COGS, and inventory cash cycles.
  • Forecasting capability: ability to build cash flow, subscription cohort, and cash conversion cycle projections that hold up against actuals.
  • Capital and lender experience: experience setting up or managing an inventory- or receivables-backed credit facility and keeping lenders confident with clean reporting.
  • Tax and controls: sales tax experience alongside a CPA; running a clean payment process with approvals and reconciliations.
  • High attention to detail: ability to catch incorrect amounts, duplicate payments, or missed filings before money moves.
  • Trust and responsiveness: discreet handling of contractor pay, bank access, and owner finances; responsive to cash/payment issues even outside scheduled days.
  • Language: fluent in English.
  • Cultural fit: aligned with the organization’s values and expectations for speed, accuracy, and accountability.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with an inventory-heavy brand importing from China.
  • Cross-border experience (e.g., US and Hong Kong).

Compensation & Benefits

  • USD $7,000 to $10,000 per month as a retainer for approximately 1–2 days a week.

Location

  • Fully remote.
