Overview

This role serves as the financial owner for a commercial insurance MGA subsidiary (NIS) and is accountable for driving written premium growth through end-to-end ownership of key finance functions.

Responsibilities include managing the monthly/quarterly/annual FP&A cycle, accounting close and revenue recognition for MGA commission income, billing operations, reinsurance program economics, and related business-unit financial oversight.

Responsibilities

  • Own the monthly, quarterly, and annual FP&A cycle, including budget-vs-actual analysis and producing the variance narrative that feeds board processes.
  • Own the accounting close and revenue recognition for MGA commission income (ASC 606), including treaty-year commission-rate reconciliation.
  • Own billing operations across all insurance programs, including:
    • Premium invoicing
    • Mileage-based installment billing
    • Agency commission netting
  • Partner with the Billing team on execution and act as the escalation point for billing disputes and cancellations.
  • Own premium trust account funding approval and serve as the escalation point for fronting-carrier remittance operations, partnering with the Controller’s team on execution.
  • Reconcile NIS reinsurance program economics, including:
    • Quota share loss ratios
    • Provisional and contingent commission true-ups by treaty year
  • Build and maintain a single, shared source of truth for reinsurance economics.
  • Provide financial oversight of subproducer and agency agreements, including reviewing terms and resolving remittance and commission-balance questions with agency partners.
  • Coordinate audit deliverables with external auditors as part of the broader company-wide engagement.
  • Author the financial narrative and results for board materials.
  • Serve as the day-to-day financial partner to Fleet, Business Auto, and Non-Fleet business-unit leads.
  • Build and lead a small, high-leverage team, including an accountant, FP&A lead, and billing operations associates.

Requirements

  • Hands-on experience across both accounting and finance/FP&A inside an operating company of approximately 8–12 years.
  • Detail-oriented, execution-focused, and able to thrive in a fast-paced, high-performance environment.
  • Hands-on operator who is comfortable working through details, implementing solutions, and iterating quickly.
  • Comfortable operating with complex entity structures and processes, with the drive to build future improvements.
  • Demonstrated strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to simplify and articulate complex financial concepts to diverse stakeholders.
  • ASC 606 revenue recognition experience, ideally with commission-based revenue models.
  • Prior experience in fintech is preferred; some fluency in insurance or MGA economics is nice to have.
  • Experience overseeing billing or invoicing operations is a plus.
  • Prior insurance or financial services experience is a nice to have, not a requirement.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Competitive salary & equity
  • Medical, dental & vision insurance
  • 401k with company match
  • Unlimited PTO
  • The estimated salary range for this position is $200K - $280K.
