Overview
This role involves serving as a Senior Research Analyst responsible for financial analysis within the capital markets. The position requires the ability to identify relative value in the markets and provide investment guidance to strategy teams through thorough review of financial documents related to securities offerings and quarterly financial statements. The analyst will maintain a network of professional contacts relevant to their sector assignments and contribute to marketing objectives by publishing sector-specific research. Ongoing surveillance of assigned investments is also a key responsibility.
Responsibilities
- Conduct due diligence prior to investment execution, responding promptly to market-sensitive requests from portfolio management and trading desks.
- Develop a working understanding of GAAP, GASB, or Statutory accounting practices when reviewing financial statements of corporate, financial institutions, and municipal entities.
- Apply mathematical and statistical knowledge, including regression analysis and basic statistical methods, in research activities.
- Participate in conference calls with sell-side analysts, rating agencies, and issuer management teams.
- Utilize Microsoft Office Suite (especially Word and Excel), Bloomberg, and S&P Capital IQ in daily tasks.
- Prepare financial forecasts, comparable company analyses, and valuation models to identify investment opportunities.
- Present findings and participate in presentations to investment strategy teams and clients.
- Maintain clear written and oral communication regarding opportunities, concerns, and transaction decisions.
- Complete special projects and other duties as assigned by management.
- Provide coaching on job competencies and leadership qualities, identify prospects, and offer strategic guidance.
- Optimize financial statement and portfolio analysis using Microsoft Office tools.
- Gather and analyze macroeconomic, industry, and company-level data to identify trends and evaluate risks and opportunities.
- Produce timely, high-quality, and insightful research on companies, trends, and sector matters.
- Build and maintain relationships with issuers and Wall Street contacts relevant to industry research.
- Effectively present credit and sector theses to portfolio managers, clients, and internal teams.
- Manage client expectations and handle multiple tasks with independent prioritization.
- Collaborate with the surveillance team to monitor and update credit risk assessments on holdings and securities from contra-firms.
- Expand professional networks to discover new opportunities and enhance client relationships.
- Assist in preparing marketing materials describing investment offerings and strategies.
- Proactively identify credit issues and provide timely solutions through research notes and outreach.
- Comply with regulatory and compliance requirements while maintaining high service standards.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or Economics.
- Minimum of 4 years of relevant investment experience.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Bloomberg, S&P Capital IQ, and SNL.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, market-driven environment.
- Strong oral presentation and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently supporting various investment strategies.
- Commitment to continuous learning and relationship development supporting departmental goals.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree or CFA designation preferred.
Compensation and Benefits
- Base salary range: $71,000 to $125,000 annually, placement dependent on skills, experience, and location.
- Eligibility for incentive compensation including production, commission, and/or discretionary incentives.
