Overview
Part-Time ABA Billing Specialist position supporting insurance billing and revenue cycle management for an ABA practice focused on neurodivergent learners and their families. This role requires expertise in CentralReach, Waystar, and AHCCCS (Arizona Medicaid) billing systems.
Responsibilities
- Verify insurance benefits for new ABA clients, including commercial and AHCCCS plans
- Conduct benefit checks and document coverage details in CentralReach
- Confirm AHCCCS eligibility and payer assignment through Availity
- Submit and track authorization requests with AHCCCS and commercial payers
- Monitor authorization expiration dates and coordinate timely renewals
- Coordinate with clinical staff to align services with authorized units
- Submit claims through Waystar ensuring accurate billing of ABA CPT codes (97151, 97153, 97155, 97156, 97157, 97158)
- Identify and resolve claim rejections and submission errors
- Perform accounts receivable follow-up on unpaid claims
- Investigate denials and submit appeals as needed
- Maintain accurate A/R records and report billing trends
- Invoice and collect patient responsibility
- Ensure compliance with AHCCCS and commercial payer billing requirements
- Manage coordination of benefits when clients have multiple insurance plans
- Maintain billing compliance with payer policies and HIPAA requirements
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of ABA billing experience
- Experience using CentralReach for claims, authorizations, and payment posting
- Experience submitting claims through Waystar
- Experience using Availity for benefit checks and authorization submissions
- Knowledge of AHCCCS / Arizona Medicaid billing requirements
- Familiarity with ABA CPT codes 97151 through 97158
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Ability to work independently and manage deadlines without daily supervision
- Ability to manage sensitive and confidential information in compliance with HIPAA
- Must pass applicable background check
- Reliable internet connection (remote/hybrid role)
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience billing Arizona payers such as Mercy Care, BCBS of Arizona, Aetna, or UnitedHealthcare
- Experience working in an ABA or behavioral health practice
- Strong denial management and appeals experience
- Experience transitioning patient billing workflows between systems
Schedule and Compensation
- Monday – Friday, 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM (30 hours per week)
- $25 – $32 per hour, depending on experience
- Part-time, hourly, non-exempt
