Overview
This role involves serving as a Principal Accountant responsible for managing client relationships and delivering comprehensive tax and accounting services. The position focuses on both personal and business tax planning, compliance, and strategic recommendations to help creative entrepreneurs succeed. It is a full-time, remote opportunity with potential leadership responsibilities.
Responsibilities
- Maintain strong client relationships, ensuring high client satisfaction and quality control standards for accurate deliverables
- Lead and mentor a tax team including a senior tax manager and three tax accountants
- Prepare and review personal and corporate tax planning documents and tax returns
- Update clients' payroll settings to align with planning goals
- Develop and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to track team performance and ensure compliance with accounting standards and regulations
- Respond to client tax notices related to income, payroll, and other taxes
- Create tax projections, scenario modeling, and analyses using tax software
- Research federal and state income, payroll, and sales tax issues
- Address client inquiries regarding reporting, tax strategy, and compliance
- Advise clients on organizational structure decisions and assist with entity formation related to taxes
- Analyze and recommend compensation, retirement plan, and employee incentive structures from a tax perspective
- Assist clients with government programs and grant opportunities
Requirements
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) with 8+ years of experience, primarily in public accounting serving diverse clients
- Strong client-facing skills with the ability to build rapport and understand client businesses
- Detail-oriented with excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proficient with cloud-based accounting platforms (preferably Xero, but QuickBooks Online, Sage, Netsuite, etc. are acceptable)
- Experience with major tax preparation software
- Familiarity with project management, task management, or practice management tools
- Ability to work independently in a remote environment with a flexible schedule
- High level of discretion and commitment to protecting client privacy and sensitive information
- Proactive attitude with a focus on continuous improvement and meeting deadlines
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience leading and mentoring accounting teams
- Strong analytical skills for tax projections and scenario modeling
- Knowledge of federal and state tax regulations and compliance requirements
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary range: $120,000 to $180,000 annually
