Overview
This role sits within the Finance team and owns the accounting that keeps financial reporting accurate and on schedule. Responsibilities include driving the month-end close and general ledger processes, partnering across Product and Engineering on revenue and product launches, and supporting audits, tax readiness, and finance systems.
Responsibilities
-
Own the close and general ledger
- Lead month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities, including journal entries, accruals, prepaids, fixed assets, intercompany accounting, and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Prepare financial statements and variance analysis; maintain books so questions can be answered quickly.
- Shorten the close each quarter by documenting processes, automating repeatable steps, and building scalable controls.
-
Marketplace and SaaS revenue accounting (ASC 606)
- Own revenue accounting across the business for guest bookings and host payouts, subscriptions and usage, and payment processing.
- Reconcile payment processor and bank activity to the ledger (including Stripe and partners), building reconciliations that scale with transaction volume.
- Partner with Product and Engineering so accounting is addressed in new product and pricing launches rather than retrofitted.
-
Operations: AP, AR, and payouts
- Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, expense management, and payroll journal entries with the Accounting Supervisor.
- Ensure hosts, vendors, and partners are paid correctly and on time, with tight reconciliation of money in and out.
-
Audit, tax, and readiness for a next growth stage
- Coordinate with external auditors on audit requests, workpapers, and filings; help prepare for the next audit cycle.
- Support tax compliance with external tax partners, including income tax, sales and lodging taxes across jurisdictions, 1099s, and multi-state registrations.
- Build policies, controls, and documentation expected by future investors and auditors.
-
Finance systems and automation
- Own and evolve the finance systems stack, including the general ledger, close tooling, expense/AP platforms, and integrations with product data.
- Use AI tooling to automate routine reconciliations, flux analysis, and documentation.
-
Communication and cross-functional influence
- Translate financial results for the VP of Finance, founder, and leadership team, including what happened, why, and implications.
- Build high-trust relationships across Finance, Product, Engineering, Operations, and external partners.
