Overview

A portfolio company within a youth sports brand platform is seeking a Senior Accountant to join their Finance team. This role focuses on revenue accounting and monthly variance analysis, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial statements. The position involves close collaboration with finance leadership, FP&A, and operational teams.

Responsibilities

Revenue Accounting

  • Manage revenue accounting processes including revenue recognition, deferrals, reconciliations, and journal entries in compliance with ASC 606 and GAAP.
  • Review customer contracts and documentation to determine appropriate accounting treatment and timing for revenue recognition.
  • Maintain deferred revenue schedules with accurate monthly roll-forwards and reconciliations.
  • Support billing and collections by validating invoicing against contracts and revenue recognition requirements.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Sales, Operations, and FP&A to resolve revenue-related issues and ensure billing accuracy.

Financial Analysis & Close

  • Lead monthly variance analysis for revenue and key operating expenses, identifying trends and unexpected fluctuations.
  • Prepare variance commentary and reporting for finance leadership and management.
  • Support month-end close activities including journal entries, account reconciliations, and general ledger maintenance.
  • Assist with quarterly and annual financial reporting, audits, and preparation of PBC schedules and documentation.

Process Improvement & Collaboration

  • Identify opportunities to enhance revenue accounting, close, and reporting processes.
  • Support system implementations, reporting improvements, and internal control initiatives related to revenue and financial reporting.
  • Serve as a resource for cross-functional teams on revenue accounting and financial reporting matters.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 2 years focused on revenue accounting.
  • Strong knowledge of ASC 606 and GAAP revenue recognition principles.
  • Experience with month-end close, account reconciliations, and financial reporting.
  • Skilled in preparing and analyzing monthly financial variances.
  • Proficiency with ERP systems; experience with Sage Intacct preferred.
  • Advanced Excel skills including pivot tables, XLOOKUP/VLOOKUP, and financial data analysis.

Preferred Qualifications

  • CPA license or active CPA candidacy.
  • Public accounting experience.
  • Experience in services or multi-entity environments.
