Senior Accountant - Controller & CFO Services

Overview

This is a 100% virtual, real estate-focused public accounting role. The position owns a portfolio of ongoing client relationships and leads a team of preparers and reviewers supporting day-to-day bookkeeping, using AI and automation. Responsibilities include delivering accurate monthly financials and serving as the accounting partner clients rely on for business decisions.

Responsibilities

• Own the accounting relationship for assigned clients, including weekly check-in calls covering what is happening in their portfolio, how it affects their financials, and what happens next
• Provide fast, high-touch service with frequent touchpoints and closely managed accounts
• Deliver accurate monthly financials prepared by your team and/or supported by AI-assisted workflows, with quality reviewed before delivery to clients
• Support client decision-making through projections, ROI analysis, and cash flow forecasting, translating results into actionable insights
• Proactively identify opportunities to streamline, grow, and improve client processes and systems
• Lead large onboardings, setups, and cleanups for clients transitioning into Controller and CFO services, including transition from a prior accountant or system
• Lead customized engagements based on a client’s current business needs using research, critical thinking, and planning
• Lead and develop preparers and reviewers, including offshore team members, with clear deadlines, direction, and feedback

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting
• 5+ years of accounting experience in a client-facing role; prior controller, CFO, or public accounting experience in a similar role preferred
• Experience supervising or reviewing the work of other accountants
• Strong software experience in QuickBooks Online, property management software, and cash flow portals preferred
• Strong technical accounting knowledge, including how entity structures (LLCs, partnerships, S corps) affect financial reporting
• Experience with budgeting, forecasting, cash flow analysis, and equity structures, including waterfall and distribution calculations

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior controller, CFO, or public accounting experience in a similar role
• Strong software experience in QuickBooks Online, property management software, and cash flow portals

Measures for Success

• Client NPS averaging 9/10 or greater
• Long-term client retention
• On-time, accurate monthly financials, with less than 5% unsatisfactory in internal quality reviews
• Team capacity and deadlines managed without last-minute escalations
• Improvement or growth opportunities identified and delivered for clients

• Compensation range: $85K - $110K
