Overview
This remote role (PST) is for a Senior Accountant to join the Finance team. The position is hands-on and blends transactional accounting with technical accounting and reporting. Responsibilities include owning the monthly close, balance sheet reconciliations, and management reporting, as well as helping build Finance’s process and ERP foundation as the organization scales.
This position reports into the Controller and includes a clear growth path to Assistant Controller.
Responsibilities
- Own balance sheet reconciliations end to end using a documented close checklist to keep the books accurate and prevent backlog.
- Tie out accruals, prepaids, and deferred revenue each month and prepare related journal entries.
- Shorten the month-end close cycle by documenting every step to keep the close fast and repeatable.
- Run AP/AR processing, invoicing, and day-to-day transactional accounting to ensure vendors are paid and customer balances stay current.
- Prepare the monthly management reporting package for the Controller and COO, including consolidated KPI and variance reporting and board- and investor-ready reporting as needs mature.
- Support accounting for ERP selection and migration, including chart of accounts redesign, data migration validation, and UAT.
- Document new accounting processes and workflows as manual tracking is reduced.
- Partner with the Director, Operations on shared master data and inventory costing (including landed COGS) so both teams use the same numbers.
- Apply GAAP-level judgment for revenue recognition, deferred revenue, and inventory costing; resolve technical accounting questions early to prevent audit findings.
- Maintain internal controls and prepare schedules and documentation for internal and external audits.
- Create a documented coverage plan and serve as the primary backup for core Controller responsibilities to ensure close and reporting continue during an absence.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 4–7 years of progressive accounting experience, including direct ownership of month-end close and reconciliations.
- Strong GAAP and technical accounting fundamentals, including revenue recognition and inventory costing.
- Hands-on experience with accounting software or an ERP.
- Advanced Excel skills.
- Ability to own both transactional accounting (AP/AR, invoicing) and higher-level reconciliation, reporting, and technical accounting (hybrid role; not a pure oversight position).
- Proven ability to build process in an under-systemized environment (not only operate within an existing process).
Preferred Qualifications
- ERP implementation or migration experience (chart of accounts design, data migration, UAT).
- Experience at a growth-stage consumer products or DTC company.
- CPA, or actively pursuing the CPA.
