Overview
Salary Range: $85,000 - $100,000 + Bonus
This role is with a full-service firm specializing in accounting, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, forecasting, CFO, and controller services for startups. The team supports fast-growing startups across the U.S. and globally by managing their financial operations.
The Senior Accountant position supports the Accounting Manager and Controller-level staff with daily accounting tasks. The role involves managing approximately 15 mid- to large-sized clients, engaging with C-level executives, providing technical accounting support, reviewing monthly closes, and closing the books for a portion of the client base.
This is a fast-paced position requiring collaboration across accounting, payroll, accounts receivable, and accounts payable teams.
Responsibilities
- Define and implement rigorous accounting processes and internal controls
- Perform general ledger functions including revenue recognition, prepaid expenses, investments, accrued liabilities, inventory tracking, depreciation and amortization, equity, and interest income and expense
- Review monthly client closes
- Manage all accounting functions such as accounts receivable, accounts payable, cash flow management, and financial reporting
- Develop revenue recognition and other accounting policies and processes consistent with GAAP
- Ensure accurate and timely preparation of financial statements, including technical accounting insights, footnotes, disclosures, and audit responses
- Identify inefficiencies and cost-saving opportunities
- Ensure accurate and timely tax filings and payments to Federal, State, and Local tax agencies
Requirements
- Current CPA designation or equivalent experience
- Minimum of four years of relevant accounting experience
- In-depth knowledge of GAAP, including preparation of audited GAAP financial statements; IFRS knowledge is a plus
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with an emphasis on clear and sensitive client communication
- Entrepreneurial mindset with resourcefulness, team orientation, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects while meeting deadlines
- Experience with accounting systems such as QuickBooks Online, Xero, NetSuite; Sage Intacct is a plus
- Experience with payroll processing systems such as Gusto, ADP, Paychex, Rippling, QBO, or Intuit is a plus
- Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Google Docs, Google Spreadsheets, and Microsoft Excel
- Strong enthusiasm for tackling new challenges and projects
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with startup clients or in a startup environment
- Familiarity with financial forecasting and CFO-level support
