Senior Accounting Consultant

Overview

A project-based, remote opportunity is available for a Senior Accounting & Finance Advisory Consultant to support client engagements with state, county, local city, or school district entities. This role is suited for professionals with public entity experience, such as those who have served as Controllers or Accounting Managers, and who prefer hands-on, impactful project work lasting approximately 2-3 months.

Pay Range: $60–$100 per hour, depending on background

Responsibilities

• Support audit readiness efforts for state, county, local city, or school district clients
• Assist with cleanup of balance sheet accounts, historical reconciliations, and accounting backlogs
• Serve as a primary contact for external auditors and advisors
• Ensure compliance with GASB standards
• Stabilize month-end and quarter-end close processes

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance
• Minimum of 10 years of progressive accounting and/or finance experience
• Experience working with state, county, local city, or school district entities
• Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, GASB standards, and core accounting principles
• Experience supporting month-end close, financial reporting, and audits
• Ability to work independently in ambiguous or evolving environments
• Advanced Excel skills

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior experience as an Accounting Manager or Controller within public entities
• Experience in project-based, interim, or advisory consulting roles
