Overview
This role owns revenue accounting for a contract-driven B2B business, including employer/organization memberships, brand and channel partnerships, and gift card programs, along with the associated direct costs.
You will design a contract-to-cash process end to end—from contract review through customer onboarding and invoicing—aiming to minimize manual effort. The work is upstream of the books, closer to the deals and initiatives that determine what ultimately gets recorded.
The position reports to the Senior Director, Revenue Accounting & Operations, and operates as a senior leader within a lean, high-autonomy team.
Responsibilities
- Own B2B revenue and direct-cost accounting for employer and organizational memberships, partnerships, and gift card programs; explain the resulting margin to leadership each close.
- Design contract-to-cash processes from the ground up so new customers are contracted, onboarded, and invoiced consistently across Sales, Customer Success, and Partnerships.
- Automate invoicing and collections so contract terms drive billing and cash with minimal manual intervention.
- Establish ASC 606 guardrails before deals are signed by reviewing contracts and partnering with Legal and commercial teams on template terms that can flex.
- Shape initiatives while they are still being developed: review product requirements, flag accounting and operational risks, and recommend simpler structures that are easier to account for and operate.
- Build a launch-ready accounting requirements process for new programs, partnering with project and data teams so each initiative goes live with defined accounting treatment and clean data.
- Lead and develop the B2B accounting team, expanding their ownership as the business grows.
- Own the audit relationship for B2B revenue, defending contract judgments and keeping controls and documentation SOX-ready.
Requirements
- 8–12+ years of progressive accounting experience, including significant ownership of B2B or contract-based revenue; Big 4 public accounting experience strongly preferred.
- Experience building a B2B revenue process from the ground up (contracting, onboarding, invoicing, collections), not just operating an existing one.
- Deep, applied command of ASC 606 for contract-driven models, including:
- Multiple performance obligations
- Principal vs. agent considerations
- Variable consideration
- Contract modifications
- Employer-subsidized arrangements
- Gift card breakage
- Technical analyses that have held up with auditors
- Strong ability to build relationships across functions outside of accounting (Sales, Customer Success, Partnerships, Product, Legal) and explain accounting implications in their terms.
- Deal desk and/or contract review experience with exposure to a range of standard and nonstandard contract structures, plus the judgment to identify which terms matter.
- Self-directed working style: take ownership of open-ended problems, return with findings and recommendations, and drive execution without waiting for direction.
- Demonstrated ability to reduce manual effort in invoicing and collections through automation, system design, or process redesign, with specific examples.
Preferred Qualifications
- CPA certification (or equivalent).
- Experience coaching or managing accountants.
- Hands-on experience with Salesforce and Ironclad (or a similar contract lifecycle management tool), ideally defining accounting requirements.
- Experience accounting for direct costs or contribution margin by revenue stream or customer.
- Exposure to consumer health, subscription or membership, or partnership business models.
- SQL or other data-querying experience sufficient to independently investigate transaction-level data.
- Hands-on use of AI or automation tools (e.g., Claude, ChatGPT, advanced Excel/Sheets) in accounting or billing workflows.
Compensation & Benefits
- Competitive salary and benefits package.
- Flexible working hours.
