Overview
This is a full-time remote role with the option for hybrid work (Tuesday and Wednesday in office) for candidates living near the organization's offices. Occasional travel is required for business purposes.
The Financial Operations controller’s team ensures the integrity, accuracy, and transparency of financial reporting by leading month-end and year-end close processes across multiple divisions. The team implements internal controls, identifies financial risks, and supports strategic financial leadership and operational execution.
Responsibilities
Month-End Close Support (35%)
- Assist with all phases of the close process including accruals, reconciliations, monthly reporting, and variance analysis.
- Extract and analyze data from multiple sources, identify inconsistencies, and support journal entry documentation.
- Prepare monthly journal entries following organizational guidelines, ensuring accuracy and proper documentation.
- Monitor activity reports to identify variances and support an accurate monthly close.
- Review and approve requisitions, Non-PO supplier invoices, and check requests.
Year-End Close Support (35%)
- Research program and vendor invoices, review purchase order reports, and help identify unrecorded liabilities.
- Conduct meetings with program counterparts to resolve inquiries and prepare revenue and expense accruals.
- Serve as backup for Capitalized Software calculations and stay updated on methodology changes.
- Manage monthly revenue and expense accruals and deferrals.
- Support external and internal audit processes.
Accounting Operations Efficiency Promotion (30%)
- Collaborate with Operational Excellence and Strategic Sourcing teams to improve the open purchase order closure process.
- Manage the organization's charitable giving benefit, coordinating with Talent and other teams on setup, contributions, payment processes, financial analysis, budgeting, and forecasting.
- Perform special projects and assignments as needed for the finance department.
Requirements
- 5 to 7 years of progressively responsible experience in financial operations management with expertise in sophisticated financial analyses.
- Thorough knowledge of financial and general accounting principles.
- Strong organizational and prioritization skills with the ability to manage multiple projects independently and collaboratively.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with experience providing leadership in financial analysis and planning.
- Strong problem-solving skills using data to inform decisions.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proven ability to build relationships and influence others.
- Proficiency in Excel and Word.
- Experience with strategic planning, financial systems, product financial analysis, budgets, and general accounting functions.
- Workday ERP experience preferred.
- CPA, Master’s in Accounting, or MBA preferred.
- Ability to travel 1-2 times per year for business purposes.
- Authorization to work in the United States.
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary range: $64,000 to $100,000 per year, adjusted by location.
- New York City, San Francisco, Seattle, Washington DC, Los Angeles: $80,000-$100,000
- Austin, Boston, Chicago, Philadelphia, Denver: $70,000-$85,000
- Atlanta, Miami, Iowa City, and most Southeast and Midwest locations: $64,000-$80,000
