Overview

The Senior Credit Analyst/Underwriter is responsible for performing financial analysis and underwriting of credits to assess risk and monitor existing loans to entities or individuals. This role focuses on the largest and most complex loans or relationships within a specific region or industry. The Senior Credit Analyst/Underwriter collaborates with Analyst I and II team members to assist in credit analysis as directed by management.

Responsibilities

  • Generate financial spreads or review spreads prepared by Analyst I or II within the bank lending operating system (nCino) using financial statements to identify and analyze trends (approximately 20% daily).
  • Create spreadsheets to quantify borrower’s personal, global, and real estate cash flows and project analysis accurately and timely (approximately 20% daily).
  • Prepare credit memos and annual reviews according to department procedures (approximately 35% as needed).
  • Attend loan committee meetings as directed by management (approximately 10% daily).
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to Analyst I and II staff as directed by the Regional Manager (approximately 10% weekly).
  • Engage Analyst I or II to assist with credit analysis tasks and oversee their work to ensure accuracy and timely delivery (approximately 5% weekly).
  • Serve as backup to the Regional Manager or other Credit Analyst leaders in reviewing work performed by other analysts as needed.
  • Maintain a constant state of alertness and work safely on a daily basis.
  • Complete required BSA/AML and other compliance training quarterly.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Equivalent to a four-year college degree in accounting, marketing, business administration, finance, or related field.
  • Minimum of 7 years of related experience and/or training.
  • At least 4 years of related management experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Skills and Abilities

  • Strong written communication skills, including the ability to write reports, business correspondence, and policy/procedure manuals.
  • Effective presentation skills and ability to respond to questions from managers, clients, customers, and the public.
  • Ability to read and understand scientific, technical, financial, and legal documents.
  • Proficient in handling complex inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or business community members.
  • Mathematical skills including probability, statistical inference, algebra, geometry, and trigonometry.
  • Critical thinking skills to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret technical instructions and manage multiple abstract and concrete variables.

Software Proficiency

  • Advanced: 10-Key, Accounting software, Spreadsheets, Word Processing/Typing.
  • Intermediate: Alphanumeric Data Entry.
  • Basic: Human Resources Systems, Presentation/PowerPoint.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Supervise a small team (3-7 employees) of Credit Analysts and Underwriters.
  • Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, training, planning, assigning, directing work, appraising performance, rewarding, disciplining, and resolving problems.
  • Assign and review work, assist and instruct as needed, and perform similar work as those supervised.

Working Conditions

  • Periodic exposure to noise and intermittent standing, walking, pushing, carrying, or lifting, none to a disagreeable extent.
  • Moderate noise level in the work environment.

Physical Requirements

  • Semi-repetitive, low physical activity requiring periods of concentration.
  • Frequent sitting, use of hands, talking, and hearing.
  • Occasional standing, walking, reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling.
  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
  • Close vision required.

Additional Information

  • Seven or more years of related experience and/or training.
  • Analytical mindset with good judgment.
  • Ability to mentor others and oversee quality and accuracy of delegated work.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.
