Overview
A full-service 401(k) recordkeeper and third-party administrator (TPA) serving over 5,000 small businesses and more than 145,000 participants is seeking a Senior ERISA Compliance Analyst. The organization specializes in affordable, high-quality retirement plans for small and medium-sized employers, offering recordkeeping services such as participant and plan sponsor websites, online statements, daily account processing, loans, distributions, and asset custody. TPA services include plan documents, Form 5500 preparation, and nondiscrimination testing. The firm emphasizes low-cost investment options including Vanguard funds, index funds, and ETFs.
Responsibilities
- Independently perform all annual nondiscrimination testing for plans, including those with complex designs
- Prepare and review Form 5500 filings for larger and more complex plans
- Draft plan amendments related to safe harbor provisions, eligibility, allocation changes, and prepare initial adoption agreements for new plans
- Serve as the primary compliance contact for assigned relationship managers
- Train and mentor Compliance Analysts on testing methodologies, filing procedures, and workflows; conduct initial quality reviews of their work before senior review
- Identify emerging compliance issues such as operational failures, missed amendments, and late contributions; recommend corrective actions
- Collect, validate, and reconcile census data and payroll records; resolve data discrepancies independently and escalate systemic issues to the Director
- Participate in developing and refining internal procedures, checklists, and training materials to improve consistency and efficiency
- Develop and maintain proficiency with required software, particularly Ft William and Relius applications
- Meet production standards focusing on quality metrics, mentorship, client communication, and volume
Requirements
- Working knowledge of ERISA Title I and Internal Revenue Code Sections 401(a), 401(k), 401(m), 410(b), 414(s), 415, and 416 as applied to defined contribution plans
- Ability to accurately apply nondiscrimination testing rules and plan document provisions across various plan designs without relying solely on software defaults
- Ability to recognize deviations from standard plan assumptions and determine when to escalate issues
- Experience coaching junior analysts by explaining regulatory frameworks and task rationale
- Skill in translating technical compliance results into clear, actionable guidance for plan sponsors without ERISA expertise
- Ability to identify workflow efficiency and documentation quality improvements
- Accountability for caseload quality and timeliness, proactively flagging risks
- Advanced Excel skills with ability to troubleshoot data discrepancies and reconcile census information
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
