Overview
An independent scientific research institute is seeking a Senior Financial Analyst to join its Office of Finance. This role involves managing the daily financial operations and billing for a portfolio of research projects. The analyst will collaborate closely with research staff to analyze project financial status, perform risk assessments, and provide proactive financial guidance.
Responsibilities
- Conduct ongoing financial analysis of projects, including profitability analysis, cost forecasting, and variance and fee deviation analysis
- Review actual project costs for accuracy and proper charging, review invoices, and support payment approval processes
- Perform monthly revenue recognition reviews, identify root causes of deviations, and recommend corrective actions
- Ensure monthly project reviews are completed and communicate financial summaries to project leaders
- Advise project leaders and management on potential changes to statements of work that may require revised budgets
- Prepare monthly progress reports including project forecasts and resource projections for clients
- Support preparation of continuation applications, carryover fund budgets, and add-on budgets
- Review initial project authorizations and setup for accuracy, and seek guidance on relevant contract terms and conditions
- Lead assigned process improvement initiatives with a high degree of responsibility
Requirements
- Previous experience with the organization's systems is required
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance with 6+ years of relevant financial analysis experience, or a Master’s degree with at least one year of relevant experience
- Understanding of indirect rates and working knowledge of various contract types
- Ability to handle ambiguity in business modeling
- Experience working in a matrixed organization
- Proficiency in MS Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and advanced Excel skills
- Knowledge of US Government contracting, Federal Acquisition Regulations, and Oracle for project reporting and billing is a plus
- Ability to learn new systems and familiarity with accounting systems is a plus
- Ability to obtain required security clearances as specified by contracts
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without current or future need for visa sponsorship
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary range: $88,000 - $109,000 (national averages; may vary by location)
