Overview

The organization is seeking a highly organized, detail-oriented, and strategic finance and accounting leader to join the team as Senior Manager of Finance. This role blends day-to-day ownership of financial operations with opportunities to optimize, systematize, and ultimately delegate or automate processes as the organization scales.

This will be the first dedicated finance leadership role, with ownership across sales tax compliance and recovery, vendor and client payment operations, month-end close, and financial reporting delivered to senior leadership and the board.

The role is based in NYC. Remote is an option for the right candidate, with a strong preference for someone able to get to NYC when needed.

Responsibilities

  • Own month-end close and financial reporting in accordance with GAAP, partnering with internal stakeholders and accounting partners to ensure accurate sales and COGS reporting for each period.
  • Establish and own an ongoing reconciliation control between the order management system, Brand Partner invoices, and payments data.
  • Partner with senior leadership on daily cash flow management, including timing of sales deposits and credit card payoffs, and balancing working capital against invested capital.
  • Track credit card activity daily in relation to customer orders and Brand Partner ordering (COGS), including managing limits, preventing failures, and ensuring optimal usage across payment partners.
  • Own client and vendor payment operations end to end:
    • Handle payment-method issues (ACH, credit card, Net Terms)
    • Manage exceptions (e.g., non-standard invoices, wire transfers)
    • Fulfill ad hoc finance requests (e.g., tax receipts)
  • Maintain healthy, timely accounts with Brand Partners and other suppliers, and own the AP cycle relationship with outsourced accountants (accountable for AP; not necessarily responsible for keying bills as the team grows).
  • Own sales tax end to end (including multi-state compliance and exemption certificates), as well as franchise tax and corporate tax filings in partnership with accounting partners.
  • Oversee OpEx review and optimization, including expense approvals, waste reduction, and ensuring credit card transactions are categorized correctly on the P&L.
  • Support investor reporting, including quarterly board materials, investor updates, and 409A preparations.
  • Lead partnerships with external reporting parties (e.g., tax preparers, insurance brokers) and manage related financial documentation.
  • Lead projects to streamline financial operations and automate recurring tasks, including improving integrations between QuickBooks and OpEx/COGS/Revenue and marketing ROI tracking, and building foundational systems to scale finance without reflexively adding headcount.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Sales and Growth, Operations, Marketing, Brand Partnerships, and Product; be comfortable working through non-standard payment and reporting scenarios.
  • As tactical work is optimized, expand ownership into more strategic finance work, including cash flow extension, credit card/payment provider relationships, and broader ownership of FP&A and strategic planning as the organization scales.

Requirements

  • 6–8 years of experience in accounting, financial operations, or controllership roles.
    • Time at an outside accounting/professional-services firm before moving in-house is a plus.
    • Startup experience is strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to act as a professional problem solver, motivated to be a first finance hire.
  • Strong knowledge of QuickBooks Online and finance tools such as Ramp, Brex, and Avalara.
    • Experience with Bill.com or a similar AP management system is a plus.
  • Experience handling multi-state sales tax compliance (or the aptitude to pick it up quickly).
  • Experience working cross-functionally with teams such as Marketing, Sales, Procurement, and Operations.
  • Strong spreadsheet skills (Google Sheets/Excel) and comfort working with large datasets.
  • Ability to operate independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced startup environment with excellent attention to detail and a drive to improve and revisit processes as the organization scales.
  • Comfortable balancing day-to-day execution with system-building and process architecture.
  • CPA or prior Controller experience is a plus but not required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field and/or equivalent experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • SQL proficiency (ability to write or troubleshoot queries).

Compensation & Benefits

  • Annual base salary: $134,750 - $160,325
  • Flexible PTO
  • Health, vision, and dental coverage
  • 401(k)
  • Paid parental leave
  • Generous equity
  • Work-from-home office and equipment compensation up to $1,000
  • Free membership with access to discounts on 150+ brands

Location

  • NYC-based; remote is available for the right candidate, with a strong preference for someone who can easily get to NYC when needed.
