Overview
This role is for a Senior Tax Manager on a direct path to Tax Director. The position offers $160,000–$185,000 base pay plus up to 10% variable compensation and a $10,000 signing bonus.
You can work fully remote from EST, MST, or CST, or choose a hybrid option in Austin, TX.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate closely with the current Tax Director/Partner and assume an expanded director role within 12 months
- Set the standards for the tax department
- Develop and train managers; provide training to co-workers on technical accounting topics or tax expertise
- Prepare and/or review federal and state corporate, individual, and partnership tax returns
- Apply professional judgment to identify issues and develop solutions in tax returns
- Research tax issues and legislation, and interpret tax code
- Make projections on future tax liabilities as part of tax planning recommendations, including variable options
- Interact with client personnel regarding tax return information, deadlines, and related updates; keep the team informed on status
- Identify opportunities to provide additional services to clients
- Stay current on professional announcements and proactively participate in professional development opportunities
- Initiate and develop relationships with appropriate levels of the client’s management team
- Provide insights and thought leadership to corporate publications regarding accounting and taxation
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Accounting from an accredited college or university
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Enrolled Agent (EA) license required
- Tenured experience as a public accounting Tax Manager
- 6+ years tax experience, with 3+ years managing a team
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Strong technology skills and proficiency with all aspects of Microsoft Office
- Works well under pressure; able to meet deadlines with accuracy
- Demonstrated dedication to self-improvement and growth in the public accounting profession
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s in Accounting or Taxation
- Working knowledge and experience with:
- Thomson Reuters UltraTax CS and Accounting CS
- Claude or other AI assistants
- QuickBooks Online
- Payroll providers such as Gusto
- Demonstrated success in managing and growing a tax department or team
- Tech-progressive, adaptable, resourceful, and highly self-motivated
