Overview

A growing manufacturing technology organization is seeking a Senior Tax Manager to establish and lead its tax and compliance function as the company scales globally. This newly created role will own tax and compliance activities that were previously managed alongside other accounting responsibilities. The organization currently operates in the United States and Canada, is expanding in Mexico, and is preparing for growth in the United Kingdom and European markets.

Reporting to the VP of Accounting, this individual contributor role will coordinate closely with accounting leadership and external advisors to ensure compliance, mitigate risk, and support international expansion. The role is based in the United States.

Responsibilities

Tax Compliance & Governance

  • Own and oversee U.S. federal, state, and local tax compliance activities.
  • Manage sales and use tax compliance, registrations, filings, and reporting.
  • Oversee tax compliance for the Canadian subsidiary in coordination with external advisors.
  • Manage indirect tax compliance including VAT, GST, HST, PST, and similar international obligations.
  • Coordinate tax provision support and annual tax filings with external tax firms.
  • Monitor nexus exposure and compliance obligations across jurisdictions.
  • Manage tax notices, audits, inquiries, and regulatory examinations.
  • Develop and maintain tax compliance calendars and governance processes.

International Expansion Support

  • Partner with accounting leadership to support international expansion strategy.
  • Coordinate with external advisors on country-specific tax, regulatory, and compliance requirements.
  • Support entity formation, registrations, licensing, and ongoing compliance in new jurisdictions.
  • Lead compliance activities related to Mexico, including import/export, customs, and regulatory matters.
  • Help establish tax and compliance frameworks for future UK and European operations.

Compliance & Risk Management

  • Develop, implement, and maintain tax and compliance policies, procedures, and internal controls.
  • Identify and assess tax and regulatory risks for domestic and international operations.
  • Recommend mitigation strategies and process improvements.
  • Support external audits and internal control initiatives.
  • Maintain documentation supporting tax positions, registrations, and compliance.

Process Improvement & Systems

  • Drive process improvement and automation initiatives related to tax and compliance.
  • Manage and optimize Taxware as the sales tax calculation and filing platform.
  • Partner with accounting, revenue operations, and finance teams to improve data quality and reporting accuracy.
  • Optimize tax-related processes within NetSuite and supporting systems.
  • Establish reporting, monitoring, and dashboard capabilities to improve visibility into compliance activities and risks.

Cross-Functional Leadership

  • Serve as the primary internal resource for tax and compliance matters.
  • Collaborate with accounting, revenue operations, legal, human resources, supply chain, and business leadership.
  • Evaluate tax and compliance implications of new business initiatives, customer arrangements, vendor relationships, and international expansion.
  • Provide recommendations and insights to senior leadership on tax and compliance matters.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Tax, or related field.
  • 7 to 10+ years of progressive tax and compliance experience.
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. federal, state, and local tax compliance requirements.
  • Experience supporting multi-state and multi-jurisdiction organizations.
  • Experience managing relationships with external tax advisors, auditors, and regulatory agencies.
  • Experience coordinating tax compliance across multiple legal entities or jurisdictions.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to operate independently and provide recommendations to senior leadership.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • CPA, MST, or equivalent professional certification.
  • Experience supporting Canadian operations and tax compliance.
  • Experience supporting international expansion initiatives.
  • Knowledge of VAT, GST/HST, customs, import/export, and other cross-border compliance requirements.
  • Experience in SaaS, industrial technology, manufacturing, or other high-growth environments.
  • Experience with NetSuite ERP and Taxware.
  • Experience building scalable processes and controls within a growing organization.

Success Measures (First 12 Months)

  • Establish clear ownership and visibility across all domestic and international tax compliance activities.
  • Successfully support Mexico expansion initiatives and related compliance requirements.
  • Build a scalable tax and compliance framework to support future UK and European market entry.
  • Strengthen compliance governance and reduce regulatory risk across jurisdictions.
  • Improve tax reporting accuracy, documentation, and process efficiency.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between the organization and external tax advisors globally.
  • Create scalable processes and controls to support continued expansion.

  • This is a remote-first role based in the United States.
  • The team is distributed across the United States and Ontario, Canada.
