Overview
This role helps bring accounting in-house and establish trustworthy, timely financial reporting for leadership.
The organization is seeking its first in-house Senior Accountant to take end-to-end ownership of the close cycle, keep the books clean, and build scalable accounting processes, controls, and documentation.
Responsibilities
- Own the month-end close process by recording and reviewing journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations, including payroll and revenue.
- Work toward closing the books by day 5 each month and escalate blockers early.
- Maintain the general ledger and accounts payable processes; manage Brex.
- Investigate discrepancies as they surface and ensure supporting documentation and internal controls are in place to make reported figures defensible.
- Direct how AI and automation are used in accounting workflows; review reconciliations, reports, and templates for accuracy before others rely on them.
- Build and maintain SOPs and policies for the 3–5 highest-priority accounting processes you own, including:
- Close checklist
- Reconciliations
- Revenue recognition
What You’ll Build (First 6 Months)
- Complete the transition to fully in-house accounting, including day-to-day ownership of the GL, AP/AR, reconciliations, and close—transitioning from an outsourced provider, with the relationship wound down by day 120.
- Reconcile and document every key balance sheet account (cash, AP, AR, revenue).
- Ensure no unresolved reconciling item older than 30 days by day 90, and keep it that way through day 180.
- Publish SOPs for the 3–5 highest-priority accounting processes you own by day 150, including close, reconciliations, and revenue recognition.
Requirements
- Hands-on ownership of the full close cycle.
- You have personally run month-end/year-end close (journal entries, accruals, reconciliations) end-to-end—not just supported it.
- You can walk through a specific close, including reconciliation issues you caught and the timelines you met.
- GAAP revenue recognition experience, including recurring/subscription revenue.
- You have applied the rules in practice and can describe a judgment call you made.
- Experience integrating AI/automation tools into accounting workflows.
- You can name a tool you set up, explain what it changed, and describe an error you caught in its output.
- Advanced Excel experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with systems automations.
- QuickBooks or similar.
- Data modeling, SQL, Databricks, or similar.
