Overview
Position: Senior Tax Accountant
Location: Remote (USA)
Department: Accounting & Finance
This role involves supporting the tax function within a fast-growing organization specializing in advanced molecular diagnostics and genetic testing. The Senior Tax Accountant will manage tax compliance, reporting, and process improvements across multiple jurisdictions while collaborating with internal teams and external advisors.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and file multi-state sales and use tax returns, gross receipts tax returns, personal property tax renditions, and other indirect tax reports.
- Coordinate with external advisors to manage federal and state income tax compliance.
- Maintain and manage the corporate tax calendar to ensure timely filing and payment of tax obligations.
- Support tax accounting activities including complex account reconciliations and month-end close processes.
- Research tax laws and regulations to assess their impact on business operations.
- Review transactions and business activities to ensure proper tax treatment and identify potential tax exposures.
- Serve as the primary contact for tax notices, audits, and information requests from tax authorities.
- Collaborate with departments such as Accounting, Procurement, Payroll, and IT, as well as external consultants on tax matters.
- Identify and implement process improvements and automation opportunities within the tax function.
- Assist leadership with special strategic projects as the organization scales.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Taxation, or a related field.
- CPA or similar active certification is highly preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years of progressive tax or accounting experience, including income tax and indirect tax compliance.
- Experience with General Ledger accounting.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel and Word.
- Strong experience with major ERP systems; Oracle experience is highly preferred, but NetSuite, SAP, or similar systems are acceptable.
- Familiarity with GSuite applications (Gmail, Sheets, Google Docs).
- Experience with tax automation software is a plus.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with strong attention to detail.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills, able to explain tax concepts to non-tax stakeholders.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines, particularly during month-end close.
- Team-oriented with a willingness to learn and adapt in a growing environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- CPA certification or equivalent.
