Overview

This role involves preparing quarterly and year-end tax provisions, as well as federal, state, and local tax returns. The position requires maintaining internal controls for SOX 404 compliance and timely filing of all tax returns. Additionally, the role supports financial accounting for income tax on a quarterly and annual basis.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain knowledge of relevant Internal Revenue Code sections, state tax rules, Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), SEC requirements, and other applicable tax and accounting regulations.
  • Prepare governmental tax returns and claims for tax refunds.
  • Prepare quarterly and year-end tax provisions, including SOX internal control procedures and financial statement tax footnote disclosures.
  • Maintain the organization's tax records and files.
  • Minimize tax liability through efficient application of current tax law in filing all applicable tax returns.
  • Avoid penalties and interest by adhering to internal controls, tax calendar, and policies.
  • Investigate and respond to notices from various taxing authorities.
  • Reconcile general ledger accounts related to corporate income, franchise, and other taxes, including deferred tax and payable/receivable accounts.
  • Research tax issues, apply findings to the organization, and write professional memos to establish and support tax positions.
  • Interact with internal and external auditors as necessary to complete audits.
  • Complete special projects assigned by management.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent technical/business experience.
  • 3-5 years of corporate income tax experience, including federal and multistate tax experience.
  • 4-7 years of relevant work experience preferred.
  • CPA certification preferred.
