Overview
This volunteer opportunity provides hands-on accounting support to help the organization keep its books current and improve the reliability of monthly reporting. The current treasurer has accounting and reporting responsibilities, supported by an accounting consultant, but transaction volume and reporting needs have outpaced what can be consistently handled without dedicated support.
The project is designed to build a clear, sustainable boundary between:
- Day-to-day bookkeeping (entries, reconciliations, and reporting)
- Higher-level oversight/review of financial activities
Responsibilities
Within a 12-week engagement, the volunteer will help produce the following deliverables:
- Completed bookkeeping entries and bank/account reconciliations for the engagement period
- Budget variance reports comparing actuals to the organization’s annual operating budget, including visual charts summarizing financial trends and flagging any discrepancies
- Recommendations to help the treasurer sustain a predictable, repeatable accounting process going forward
Success looks like:
- Accurate, current books
- A clear reporting rhythm that treasurer and other officers can rely on for oversight and decision-making
- A stronger, well-defined division of labor between hands-on accounting and financial oversight
