Overview

This role owns finance and accounting end-to-end, including FP&A, cash management, budgeting, month-end close, financial analysis, and finance operations. The position manages outsourced accounting and tax providers and is accountable for financial accuracy, judgment, and decision-making across the organization.

This is a hands-on operator role with direct partnership with the CEO on key strategic questions, including growth pace, where to invest, and operating safely near risk thresholds. The role also shapes capital allocation in a profitable scaling business, influencing growth rate, margins, and long-term outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain a deep understanding of the business to inform financial assumptions and decisions (target customers, value proposition, and growth drivers)
  • Build and maintain driver-based financial models across revenue, costs, margin, and cash
  • Own company cash management and forecasting, continuously identifying ways to generate and deploy cash more effectively within risk tolerances to support faster growth
  • Lead financial planning using zero-based budgeting and ROI-based capital allocation, with a focus on aggressively increasing operating cash flow and funding the highest-growth activities
  • Partner with data to enable clean, tight financial data; collaborate with product, engineering, marketing, and operations to provide a financial lens on decision-making
  • With support from an outsourced accounting firm, prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting, including accurate revenue recognition and balance sheet reconciliations and annual independent audits
  • Analyze operating and financial results, distilling key insights and assessing and acting on current and future business opportunities and risks
  • Own spend management, including accounts payable and vendor negotiations, with a focus on maximizing cash ROI
  • Own and minimize taxes, including income tax, sales tax, and excise tax
  • Develop points of view on financing, capital structure, and shareholder outcomes, including direct ownership of cap table and dilution modeling
  • Serve as an external-facing representative for investor relations, fundraising, M&A, or other capital projects

Requirements

  • Senior finance leader (VP Finance / Head of Finance) who has owned finance end-to-end
  • Strong financial forecasting and planning capabilities
  • Proven ability to think aggressively, creatively, and using first principles
  • High standards for accuracy and integrity
  • Experience in consumer subscription and marketplace businesses
  • Experience with early stage, fast-growing businesses funded through operating cash flow, ideally with deferred revenue and significant variable costs
  • Preference for hands-on work without reliance on a significant team
  • Thrives in a global, async, remote environment with US East coast working hours

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with debt and equity financing, vendor or partner negotiations, and M&A
