Overview
This role is for the organization’s first VP of Finance, serving as a hands-on builder who establishes and scales a high-leverage finance function. You will partner directly with founders and leadership to shape decisions, not just report results—working closely with product, operations, sales, and engineering as the business grows.
The focus is on forward-looking modeling, unit economics across hundreds of real-world locations, finance systems upgrades (including transition from QuickBooks to an ERP), cap table and equity operations, investor and board readiness, and key business stewardship tasks that support execution across finance and adjacent G&A needs.
Responsibilities
- Own the forward-looking model: Maintain and continuously improve a driver-based, forward-looking model; build scenarios (base/low/high), pressure-test assumptions, and translate levers into clear tradeoffs for leadership.
- Drive unit economics and profitability by location: Track and improve margins and P&Ls by location; use cohort and segmentation (e.g., region, seasonality, property type) to surface insights and partner with Operations to increase contribution margin and reduce complexity as the business scales.
- Turn data into day-to-day decisions: Build lightweight, reliable budget vs. actuals and KPI dashboards (cash, runway, sales productivity, marketing efficiency, portfolio performance) for leaders to use frequently—not only quarterly.
- Upgrade the finance stack: Lead the transition from QuickBooks to a scalable ERP; rationalize the chart of accounts, tighten close processes, and ensure clean books that roll up cleanly to corporate.
- Cap table & equity operations: Own Carta hygiene, option grants, refreshes, and board approvals with accurate, timely execution.
- Investor & board readiness: Maintain consistent metrics definitions, keep reporting and documentation ready (including a clean data room), and deliver crisp monthly/quarterly reporting with alignment between narrative and numbers.
- Vendor spend & commercial rigor: Identify major cost buckets, renegotiate where leverage exists, and standardize commercial terms to reduce one-off complexity; partner with Sales & Operations on scalable templates.
- Compensation & leveling: Partner on comp philosophy, leveling frameworks, annual reviews, and headcount planning aligned with goals and runway.
- Legal/G&A stewardship: Coordinate commercial contract review, insurance matters, and office operations as needed; bring in external counsel efficiently and work toward pragmatic in-house coverage over time.
- Capital strategy & banking: Maintain cash forecasts, evaluate debt options, cultivate banking relationships, and plan for audits as the organization grows.
- Create leverage for teams: Build simple ROI templates and decision frameworks so teams can rank projects, evaluate paybacks, and move quickly with financial discipline.
Requirements
- Built-from-scratch finance experience: Experience as the first or very early finance hire at a high-growth company; have personally implemented systems, closed the books, owned the model, and taken a company through its first audits.
- Hands-on operator: Comfortable balancing high-level strategy with detailed execution; able to resolve ERP/mapping issues and present board-ready scenarios.
- Modeling + judgment: Strong command of driver-based modeling, scenario analysis, and cohort economics; ability to simplify and focus on what moves the business.
- Systems & process builder: Experience moving from QuickBooks to ERP; capability to design a chart of accounts, shorten close cycles, and make data trustworthy.
- Story + numbers: Clear communicator who can translate complexity into crisp narratives for executives, the board, banks, and investors while keeping the narrative aligned with the data.
- Commercial and vendor acumen: Ability to review terms, standardize templates, and lead vendor renegotiations that improve unit economics.
- People partnership: Experience supporting compensation design, leveling, and workforce planning in a pragmatic, operator-friendly way.
- Bias for action: Strong sense of urgency, measured improvements each cycle, and practical prioritization.
- Order maker mindset: Proactively identify gaps, build recommendations, and set the finance agenda rather than waiting for instructions.
Preferred Qualifications
- Multi-location experience and/or revenue-share or transactional business exposure
- Hardware or inventory familiarity
- Prior ownership of legal and G&A functions beyond “pure” finance
- Experience preparing for and leading the company’s first audits
- Bonus: finance experience at a company executing a roll-up or M&A-driven growth strategy
Compensation & Benefits
- Equity: Have a stake in the business.
- Health insurance: Health insurance is offered; currently covers 85% of the cost of medical, dental, and vision plans for the primary employee and 50% for dependents.
- Parental leave: 12 weeks of fully paid parental leave for all parents to bond with a newly born, adopted, or fostered child. The 12 weeks can be taken continuously or intermittently over the first 18 months of the child’s life.
- Home office setup: Laptop plus additional equipment needed for success.
- Time off: Unlimited PTO policy with a minimum requirement of 10 days per year.
- 401(k): 401k retirement savings program.
- Travel and team offsites: Team off-sites occur about 2 times per year for a full week in locations such as Tahoe, Charleston, San Diego, Park City, and Austin.

- 2–3 full company offsites ("Remote Weeks")
- Supporting one new location launch
- In-person onboarding and supporting other onboarding sessions for new team members
- Attendance at in-person events throughout the year is expected; if you are not open to traveling ~6 weeks per year for work, this role may not be a fit.
