Overview

A temporary, benefit-eligible opportunity is available for an experienced Accounting Technician II to join the Accounts Payable team within the Financial and Risk Services Branch of Seattle Public Utilities (SPU). This role involves supporting complex accounts payable processes, managing a high volume of invoices, meeting daily deadlines, resolving issues, and communicating effectively with internal and external stakeholders. The position reports to the Accounts Payable Manager.

This temporary assignment is expected to last one year and offers flexible/hybrid remote work options.

Responsibilities

  • Process and prioritize a high volume of invoices, updating information in the financial system in real time
  • Monitor aged payables for assigned work streams
  • Record incoming invoices within designated time frames and maintain invoice tracking logs
  • Match invoices in the financial system and utilize system queries to research procurement-to-payment information
  • Communicate discrepancies or issues and track communications and escalations with customers and vendors
  • Track changes to remittance information, payment methods, terms, and other payable procedures
  • Resolve inquiries related to payment history, status, and coding from internal and external customers and vendors
  • Handle and deposit cash/checks, process refunds, and manage conservation rebates
  • Recognize and record asset purchases, reconcile vendor statements, and research unpaid invoices
  • Process standard purchase orders and reconcile invoices to purchase orders and/or receipts
  • Assist with processing travel and training invoices, permits, consultant contract payments, employee reimbursements, and credit card transaction reviews
  • Collaborate with section lead on various accounts payable projects

Requirements

  • Minimum of two years of accounting and/or bookkeeping experience, or one year of experience as an Accounting Technician I
  • Combinations of education, training, certification, and experience will be evaluated individually for comparability

Preferred Qualifications

  • Solid full-time experience performing accounts payable supplier invoice processing
  • Strong customer service skills with excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication abilities
  • Experience with large accounting software systems
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools, including Outlook, OneDrive, and SharePoint
  • Punctual and reliable attendance

Compensation & Benefits

  • Hourly pay range: $35.00 - $39.18
  • Temporary position with benefits

  • Seattle Municipal Tower, 700 5th Ave., Seattle, WA
