Overview

A leading automotive retailer specializing in used car sales, financing, and related services is seeking a Senior Accountant to maintain the integrity and accuracy of financial records. This role involves supporting the general ledger, ensuring compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), and preparing complex journal entries, schedules, and financial reports. The position includes responsibilities in year-end budgeting, monthly business reporting, audit support, and supervising junior team members.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the month-end close process within assigned areas, ensuring timely and accurate completion.
  • Review and approve complex journal entries, reconciliations, and schedules related to financed receivables, servicing portfolios, capital market financing, general accruals, intercompany transactions, and revenue recognition in compliance with GAAP.
  • Collaborate with Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) and other departments to develop annual budgets, forecasts, and perform variance analysis across business segments.
  • Prepare and communicate routine and ad-hoc management reports to support strategic decision-making.
  • Research accounting guidance and provide technical recommendations for proper accounting treatments.
  • Validate, test, and support development of financial models for revenue and cost recognition.
  • Communicate operational expenditure performance metrics to senior leadership and stakeholders.
  • Support external and internal auditors during quarterly reviews and annual audits by providing documentation and explanations.
  • Evaluate and recommend improvements to accounting processes and policies to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
  • Assist with system upgrades, including implementation of new ERP systems for loan servicing and accounting functions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • Minimum of four years of overall experience in accounting or finance roles, with at least two years focused on accounting functions.
  • Prior experience in team management or leadership, demonstrating ability to supervise and develop staff.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP.
  • Advanced Excel skills for data analysis and reporting.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certification is highly desirable.
  • Experience with general ledger management, technical accounting concepts, and audit processes.
  • Familiarity with accounting automation tools and AI integrations.
  • Experience working in organizations with revenues exceeding $500 million.
