Overview
A leading organization in the mining industry is seeking a Senior Accountant to support its financial operations and ensure compliance with regulatory standards. This role involves hands-on accounting activities such as month-end close, financial reporting, and internal controls. The Senior Accountant will collaborate closely with the Controller to maintain financial data integrity, improve reporting processes, and support audit activities. Responsibilities
- Perform and review daily, monthly, and quarterly accounting activities, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and variance analysis.
- Participate actively in the monthly close process, ensuring timely, accurate, and well-documented results.
- Maintain the integrity of the balance sheet through ownership of assigned accounts and schedules.
- Support external reporting activities, including audit support and documentation preparation.
- Collaborate with the Controller to prepare internal management reports and financial analyses.
- Assist with SOX controls execution, documentation, and remediation efforts to ensure compliance.
- Identify inefficiencies in daily processes and contribute to designing and implementing practical improvements.
- Serve as a technical resource within the accounting team, sharing knowledge and best practices to enhance team capabilities.
- Support ad hoc accounting projects and initiatives as assigned by the Controller, contributing to strategic goals.
Requirements
- CPA license or actively pursuing CPA certification.
- At least one year of hands-on accounting experience in a public company environment or auditing.
- Strong understanding of US GAAP and financial close processes.
- Demonstrated leadership qualities, including informal mentorship.
- Process improvement mindset balancing accuracy, efficiency, and deadlines.
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to communicate complex accounting results clearly to leadership.
- Ability to work effectively under tight deadlines in a dynamic environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in the mining or resource extraction industry is a plus.
