Overview
This role is a project-based engagement with the finance leadership team of a large international Managing General Agent (MGA). The assignment involves stepping into a distributed U.S. accounting group to untangle complex reconciliations, modernize the month-end close, and introduce AI and automation to legacy workflows.
Responsibilities
- Own and drive the claims accounting area, including complex catch-up work, resolution of historical discrepancies, and establishing clean go-forward processes for premium trust and claims funding.
- Shadow month-end close and day-to-day operations to map current workflows, identify bottlenecks, and recommend efficiency improvements in data flows between the MGA and carrier partners.
- Use advanced Excel, automation tools, and AI capabilities (including Copilot Pro) to eliminate manual data entry and streamline cross-system reporting, such as high-volume bank reconciliations and bordereaux reporting.
- Partner with finance leadership by providing technical accounting context and driving continuous improvement across teams in San Diego, Dallas, New York, and North Carolina.
Requirements
- Deep experience in the insurance sector.
- Specific knowledge of MGA/delegated authority models.
- Experience with premium trust accounting and carrier reporting.
- Strong ability to work within complex accounting frameworks (CPA/CA preferred), including the ability to untangle legacy reconciliation issues.
- Proven track record of optimizing finance and accounting workflows.
- Highly proficient in Excel, with demonstrated ability to apply automation or AI tools to finance workflows.
Preferred Qualifications
- Formal training such as Lean Six Sigma (a plus, not required).
Engagement Details
- Start timing: Expected to kick off within the next month, ramping up as the team approaches year-end.
- Duration: Flexible initial length; begins as project-based support with potential to extend based on performance.
- Location & hours: Remote. Must be onshore or fully capable of aligning with U.S. working hours, with a strong preference for West Coast hours.
- Capacity: Full time (40h per week).
What This Role Is Not
- Not pure staff augmentation; clerical and day-to-day execution resources are already in place.
- Not basic bookkeeping; the work includes complex MGA accounting, historical catch-ups, and untangling legacy processes.
- Not order-taking; requires proactive identification of inefficiencies, questioning existing processes, and proposing solutions.
