Overview
This project-based role is for a Senior Accountant and process optimization expert supporting a distributed U.S. accounting group tied to an international Managing General Agent (MGA). Working directly with finance leadership, you will address complex reconciliations, modernize month-end close processes, and introduce automation and AI to legacy workflows.
Responsibilities
- Take ownership of the claims accounting area, including complex catch-up work, resolution of historical discrepancies, and establishing clean go-forward processes for premium trust and claims funding.
- Shadow the team through month-end close and day-to-day operations to map existing workflows, identify bottlenecks, and recommend efficiency improvements—especially for how data flows between the MGA and carrier partners.
- Use advanced Excel, automation tools, and AI capabilities (such as Copilot Pro) to reduce manual data entry and streamline cross-system reporting (including high-volume bank reconciliations and bordereaux reporting).
- Partner with finance leadership by providing technical accounting context and driving continuous improvement across teams.
What the Role Is Not
- Not pure staff augmentation; the team already has clerical and day-to-day execution resources. This role focuses on challenging how work is done.
- Not basic bookkeeping; the work involves complex MGA accounting, historical catch-ups, and legacy process untangling.
- Not order-taking; you must be proactive in identifying inefficiencies, questioning existing processes, and proposing solutions.
Requirements
- Deep experience in the insurance sector.
- Specific knowledge of MGA/delegated authority models and premium trust accounting.
- Strong understanding of carrier reporting.
- Ability to untangle legacy reconciliation issues within complex accounting frameworks.
- Highly proficient in Excel, including a demonstrated ability to apply automation or AI tools to finance workflows.
Preferred Qualifications
- CPA/CA preferred.
- Proven track record of optimizing finance and accounting workflows.
- Lean Six Sigma training is a plus but not required.
Engagement Details
- Start timing: Expected to kick off within the next month, ramping up as the team approaches year-end.
- Duration: Flexible initial length; starts as project-based support with potential to extend into a longer-term relationship based on performance.
- Capacity: Full time (40h per week).
- Location & hours: Remote. Must be onshore or fully capable of aligning with U.S. working hours, with a strong preference for West Coast hours.
